Hey Guys,
Well went to our Chapters' RMEF Dinner Last night and well i won a Mathews Switchback bow and a chance to go hunt elk in montana with Dome Mountain Outfitters. Just wondering if any of you have had experiences with these guys and what kind of elk do the see up in there area.

No info to give but just wanted to say, You Are A Lucky Man!!! I would love to go back to Montana to hunt!! Good luck to you, and let us know how the hunt turns out!!

Work to hunt!! Live to hunt!! And the rest spent keeping the wife happy!!

There was an Elk Country Journal episode that featured the Dome Mountain Outfitters.
Early season archery might be good time to hunt Dome Mountain, they have some private land and some resident elk. That country is kind of elk shy until the weather gets wintery and the Yellowstone Park bulls start showing up. Opening weekend of gun season would be good or the end of the season migration. If you find an old bull from the Park he could be 300+.
From all I know they are a class operation and will show you a good time even if the weather and elk don't cooperate.

Hunted on my own a few years back near Emigrant. The folks at Dome Mountain were kind enough to let me UPS my gear there - I picked it up when I flew in. They are SUPER-NICE people, and I'm sure you'd have a great time. One thing though, wolves. Spent a week in the general area, hunted my butt off and not until I hoofed it WAAAAY back, all the way to the public backside of Hubbard's did I run across two semi-raghorn 5 point bulls. Got 'em in but no shot in brush with bow (If they zigged- instead of zagged, but that's archery elk). It was a fun hunt, great country but did have wolves nearby every night- didn't matter north, south, east or west of Emigrant center. The only plus is that these guys live there and know the honey-holes that I didn't. Probably be slim to shoot a book elk, but a respectable five point to a 260" - 300" six is probably very possible. I'm sure it'd be a great trip with some super nice folks. Good luck!
