Just curious what collections of bucks you've seen that would blow us away, but aren't in the books and the owners just dont publisize themselves??

I saw an incredible collection in north central Washington. The hunter was a Native American and most all the bucks were from the res I believe. Anyhow, he had like 15-20 mounted bucks then another 10+ big racks. Many of these bucks would go B&C and some were just shy. He also had a whitetail with like 31 inch mains. Unbelievable. Some were giant nontyps, some giant typs. I wish I had pics of it!

Someone, maybe OSOK, mentioned some NM bucks of the past that would have gone near or over 400". Can you tell us more????

I know a guy that wants to stay low pro-file,He is a buisinessman and doesn't want any negative publicity.
Anyway,He has the MOST incredible collection of North American big game animals that I have ever seen! Everything is HUGE!
His deer collection is outrageous! Muleys,Blacktails,Whitetails,Coues!,You Name it!Many Booners!
I think he has 4or5 Grand Slams of N/A sheep and has taken all the wild sheep of the world with many duplicates (3 Marco Polos)
He has never entered any in B&C or SCI. You could spend days in his trophy room!
He is a real down to earth guy for being so wealthy and prefers to be out of the spotlight!
He hunts not for noteriety, but just for the love of the sport!

Hey Harry,
If this is the same guy I'm thinking about, your exackly right. He invited me to see his trophy room and I brought along a friend and we both had to reattach our jaws.(they fell off as soon as we entered "the room") A very rich, but humble hunter who has as much passion for the hunts as he has for the animals. If this is in fact the same person, you should ask to see some of his wildlife pictures. Pretty amazing stuff. Fstop

most impressive "collection" i've ever seen was Cal Koziah's. because he shot em all with a bow. a junky bow too. guy has to be one of the 3 or 4 best pure hunters ever.

I also know a taxidermist in SanJose Ca. that spent years hunting the Arizona strip with the late Ted Riggs, his rafters are filled with bucks that are just as impressive as Ted's!
I don't think any have been scored!

I know a guy that use to live in Everett Washington that now lives in California somewhere that has an awesome collection of mule deer. They are not entered in the book but would be #5 and #8 all time nontypical. There are others (a massive three point that still makes the book, several fourty inchers, and a 26 X 27 point buck that is typical in shape). All the forks branch up and uniform and even on both sides. He has it life sized mounted. I will scan them some day and post them.
Later,
Shane

I have been to ted nugents bow shop in jackson michigan and it would blow you away the mounts are incredible so life like its unreal

Cool! I love to hear stories about the monsters that no one knows about. Personally, I'd have to see them to believe them, but its stories like Shane posted that just intrigue the chit out of me!

I dont know the scores on any of the indians bucks, but some are easily Boone, both typ and nontyp, and all from Washington. Same place a friend of mine found a beautiful typical 93 1/2 inch shed.

Thanks all

RLH, are you talking about the cal coziah from soda springs Idaho? If you are he was busted for poaching in wyoming.

I have scene some awesome mounts that would be right up there with the top in any book. There are 4-5 guys that I know of, that are just poachers. cant prove it. But I know damn well they would have those deer-elk all over the b&c, and the web.
I think there are records all over, that are just hiding in peoples houses.

Book or no book, the absolute most incredible display you can find ANYWHERE of the biggest mule deer ever, is in Kansas City, Kansas at Cabela's mule deer museum. Anyone else here seen it yet? All you mulie junkies would be well served to make a stop off I-70 if you are ever passing through. You wont be dissappointed.

Ya I was at Cabelas KC 7-8 months ago, really incredible. Seems like there is 50 monsters in the mule deer room, a few more in the main lobby.

My in-laws have a friend in Eastern WA that has an awesome collection. He had a special barn made for them all. The critters are all set up in their native surroundings. The first room is all African animals with a wet bar and jungle sounds playing throughout the room. He has a lion attacking a zebra that is awesome. The full size sable is my favorite. In the adjoining room is the "North American room". There is where his super slam is, minus 1 desert bighorn. The mounts are so lifelike that it will startle you. He even has a fake stream with steelhead and salmon in it and a brown bear fishing in it with a humpy in its mouth. There are a couple of beavers gnawing on quakers. A full size polar bear on a huge chunk of ice. Full size elk, a few stags from New Zealand, and on and on. It is f-ing cool!
My in-laws also have a neighbor in Tumwater (WA), that has every African animal that you can imagine. Many of them duplicated several times. He also has a sh!tload of others from around the world. If I remember right, he has over 15 pronghorns, 25 whitetails, 10 mulies (none of which are all that big), several 340+ bulls and about 10-12 bears. My mother in-law took me and my daughters over to see this dudes collection and thought that it would only take a few minutes. Boy was she wrong! Hhaaahaaaaaa.... 3 1/2 hours later my kids and I still didnt want to leave but had to.
I am working on my collection but have a looooooooooooooooooooong way to go. Some day I hope to have one half as cool as those dudes!

The best collection I ever remember seeing was when I was a kid up the Alaska Highway on the BC side of the BC/Yukon Border. It was a wildlife musuem put together by a taxidermist. The building was a giant igloo shape. They had tons of animals all lifesized. The work was incredible. They had the Word Record Moose (at the time) lifesize. It had been hit by a train. Most of the animals in the museum were pickups from the railway. I remember he had a sow black bear with 2 cubs. The cubs were up a tree snag reaching in to a hole in the snag. He had real bumblebees flying around there heads. It was pretty cool. The museum made a real impression on me. I believe I was 8 at the time.
As for mule deer collections I personally haven't seen many large collections but I have seen many old heads hanging in old general stores that would make the Books easily.
I've been told by a friend of mine that he knows an old time family in the North Okanagan that has a barn full of huge muley racks, a barn full of elk racks and a barn full of moose racks. I've got to set up a trip with him to go see it. I guess it is jaw dropping.

I just visited Cabelas new monolithic 2 story, warehouse-sized, shopping mall in Eastern Pennsylvania. Billed as "Pennsylvania's #1 Tourist Destination." I have been to Cabela's HQ in Nebraska, but this place was incredible.

There was an Asian/African "wing" with full-bodied elephants, cape buffalo, leopards, rhinos, hippos, crocs, hyenas, zebras, lions, and various types of deer -- all displayed in real life, hunting and fleeing motions.

Also visited the Mule Deer gallery and eyed 100 Trophy class bucks, including the Burris buck, B&C World Record Typical, up-close and in-person.

But I got to say, all scoring aside, there were MANY trophies that were every bit as impressive (and some more so) than what B&C ranked as "number 1."

Here's a link (sorry so massive):

Three pages of Cabela's "Hamburg, PA" life-sized mounts.

Enjoy!

I am just finishing a house with siding here in southern Idaho and it is a addition and the contractor took me in to see the cabinets in the kitchen and when the back door was opened all I saw where heads in the new part of the house as the ceiling was vaulted all the way to the other end of the addition. Well needless to say i never even looked at the cabinets but went right into the heads in the livingroom. There where 16 mule deer which where all over 30"'s. 4 whitetails 6 antelopes and elk. There where birds also. The guy drives truck with his wife. They came home and he showed me some more heads mounted in the garage. he had stacks of sheds out behind his garage and he had skull plates with antlers also in his other garage of his families trophies. My friend knows him and he said he spends a ton of time scouting alot of area's to hunt. I was dunbfounded at his collection in the house. He had one that would easliy go 240+.
It is great to see such a collection and know there are some great bucks still out there to harvest.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-01-04 AT 08:00AM (MST)[p]chesterwyo, no foolin'? coziah busted for poachin'? i thought he was a retired game warden? i know he had some kind of game and fish job. seems like he worked at a fish hatchery. when did this happen? he must be over 80 now. was it recent? i have his book, i'll read it again. missed the poachin' chapter. this is really a surprise. never met the guy, but from i read about him, he seemed pretty humble and really knew his stuff about hunting. instead of cammo, he wore red and black plaid clothes. and he always kept the wind in his face and moved so slow and quiet he'd aggravate a sloth. never took a shot over 10 yards. if it's true, that's a shock.

I think it happened some time in the mid 90's. I don't remember the exact charges but I know he was convicted of poaching a mule deer in wyoming. I was thinking about it and I'm sure a lot of areas he hunts are pretty close to the wyoming border, maybe he unknowingly over stepped the boundary but who knows. I'll keep researching to see if I can find out exactly what happened.
