I bought me a new rifle yesterday.I got a Tikka lightweight in 270 WSM.I will be using it for backpack hunts to try and cut down on the weight. The action is as smooth as silk.I think I will go ahead and order the reloading dies today so I can start loading some rounds while I wait for the dang 10 day waiting period x( I can't wait to shoot it!

Anyone out there in MM land have one of these rifles?

It is an amazing rifle. I live here in ut and after about 5 months of trying to get the 270 WSM I went out and got the 300 WSM. Very smooth. The only thing I have been haveing problems with is jamming. For some reason the clip isn't built right so after you shoot 2 quick shots the 3rd has jammed everytime. I even went and bought a extra clip for it and I am still haveing the same problem, so I am going to take it in and have someone look at it.

doesn't sound that amazing to me.;) it seems it would have to function properly to be amazing.

Its amazing if you can hit the target with your first two shots!!!!!!! Which I should be able to do this year.

Well when i hunt i grab my .270 and one shell. Thats all i need;)

i wish 10point

I have heard a lot of good things about Tikka rifles. I hear the barrels are free floated the action are smooth and they shoot well from out the box. I have been thinking about one myself. Give us a progress report after your first trip to range.

The problem is with the new shorter fatter casings, you wouldn't find it on the long action tikka's, I have the win 70 WSM and have similar probs, I've owned the tikka in 7 mag long action don't know why I got rid of it looking to buy another real soon....

Bucksnort hows that tikka?
I was loking at one at sportmans warehouse it was 379$ it was a varmint Cal. 22-250 the trigger wasn,t adjustable the salesman said the out-of-box accuracy thing is a sales pitch, and it wasn,t a gun they would pick. But the action felt better than anything I tried out shopping. I gotta get a new gun and scope Im going crazy!!! its tax time,or gun time.

Duvy,
That is totally opposite of the information I received from the SW in Utah. They were all very very high on the rifle. They felt the out of the box accuracy was the best available. They also bragged about the high level of adjustability in the trigger???

Does anyone know how the recoil on the 270 wsm compares to the winchester 270? Looking at the ballistics, the 270 wsm isn't far from the 300 win mag. If the 270 wsm recoil is significantly less than the 300's, it will definitely be my next purchase as the energy and speed are impressive.

bowhunt,
I was down at the sportsmans in Provo yesterday and the one on 7200 S. (hell I drove around all day)
the salesman only had one in a varmint cal. didn't ask about different model in another cal. but the one he showed me was only 379 or 389 any-way it was under 400, I dont now if the one I looked at was a cheaper model, or if the guy didn,t know what he was talking about. (he seemed to)

In Provo the salesman said the trigger was fixed at 2.5 pounds
and the out-of-box accuracy thing is a sales pitch, then he went on saying that everyone shoots different and alot of manufactors are using the out-of-box sales pitch.

I liked the Tikka, it was stainless 24" barrel, and it was so light, it felt almost to light. All he had it in was 22-250 I have my I on the 223 WSSM cal.

Duvy,
That is interesting. The T3 is the rifle I was looking at. I think it was right around $450???
Maybe your guy was telling the real story.
So do you think you are going to go ahead and buy one? I am considering it in a 270 or a 06.
Let me know if you get one and what you think.

Good luck!

who cares about recoil when you can buy a limb saver recoil pad.

bowhunt,
I am still looking, I want to check out a sako.
But im having a hell of a time trying to find one, that tikka is at the top of my list, especialy for the money.

if decide to make momma happy, and go with the Tikka all let you know. " cant get over how smooth the actions are"

I have to wait till the 9th to pick up the rifle (CA waiting period).I ordered a Leupold VX II to go on top of the gun,I also ordered some dies and reloading components. The scope and dies should also come on the 9th.I will give a full report on the rifle as soon as I can.I'm really looking forward to testing out the new 270 wsm,the caliber seems to make alot of sense.

I wish that Tikka would make their Continental Long Range Hunter in a left handed 300 win mag! That seems to be one hell of a rifle.
