Does anyone know how to get the list of areas that were undersold in the 2003 draw? I am looking for a second choice hunt to keep building my points. I was thinking of anything in the Meeker area.
Thanks.

Check the DOW website. Many areas up there that are undersubscribed. You can also check the new big game brochures. Units with asteriks are undersubscribed.

Last year we hunted the area west of there. I'm not saying that we are the best hunters...but, for the first weekend, we had about 15 people in the field. We took one bull, and another guy shot, 3 times, at one at about 200 yards. Those were the only elk seen...except for those on private land.

One day, We hunted up around the SWA, up against the highway going from Rangely to Meeker. It looked better. But, still no elk. We actually can't hardly say that we were in there, as it was only about 4 hours.

But, I ain't the best hunter, so you could say that I just didn't see the elk that were in the there...maybe. But, I used to make my living looking at dirt and telling you what was there. I saw something like 3 sets of elk tracks, for the whole time that I was in there. Now, suppose I only saw half of them, that would still be less that one track a day.

The Reader's Digest version is this...that place sucks. We're going to unit 12, and the others mentioned w/it this year.

OOOPs, I see that I posted on the Mule Deer forum and talked about elk. We saw deer, a lot, and we would have taken a bunch too. But, I think the option listed is still better.

Thanks guys for the info. I feel dumb for asking now. If I would have looked closely at my book I would have seen the asterik thing. Is access very tough in these areas? I bet the best hunting is all on private land with high fees. Any suggestions?
