The legislature approved a hike in permit fees efective 2005 as follows:
..............................2004.......2005
Res Gen Deer............$35.........$40
Res Gen Elk..............$60.........$65
Res L.E. Bull Elk.........$180.......$280
Res Turkey...............$30.........$40
Nonres Gen Deer.......$208........$263
Nonres Gen Elk..........$333.......$388
Nonres L.E. Bull Elk....$483........$795
Nonres Turkey..........$55.........$100

What does eveyone think?
Is there any other state that charges that kind of $$$ for a resident L.E. Elk permit?

Here is a list I just put together yesterday for NON-HUNTERS ONLY.

Deer Elk
AZ 232.00 485.00
CO 298.25 493.25
ID 363.50 467.00
MT 340.25 590.25 Combo(640.25)
NV 382.00* 1,342.00*
NM 196.00 481.00
UT 208.00 333.00
WY 272.00 492.00

* The Highest *

Isn't the nonresident New Mexico bull elk tag quite a bit higher than the 481.00 listed if you apply for the units they list as "High Quality/High Demand"?

AZ's elk tags look like a bargain when compared to the 2005 Utah LE elk tag, 2004 NM HQ/HD tags, and the 2004 NV elk tag.

Where else can ya draw an LE elk tag for $280.00 and have a very real chance at turning down 360 bulls because you know and your scouting has shown bigger bulls are available?? Plus with such restrictive tag allocation amounts you have no crowd control problems.

I really don't have a problem with HAVING to pay that, did I want that big a price hike, of course not.

Now to get them to get rid of the Credit Card appl. option and the point code only......

Idaho non-resident deer tags are $235.00 and non-resident elk tags are $338.50 - among lowest in the west.

Idaho---but ya got to buy the $128.50 license and another $16.50 bow-validation and yet another $16.50 mzzldr validation so it kinda gets a little more expensive than the Basic Fee, somewhat mis-leading to someone first checking out Idaho.....They got sweet seasons for useing all your weapon choices if ya need to and don't mind paying the extra validation fees. Idaho is close too. But to compare the Quailty of Controlled Hunt bulls vs Utahs LE bull units....... simply no comparing.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-07-04 AT 06:26PM (MST)[p]PleaseDear - you have a good point when it comes to the out of state hunting license, permits, etc. I guess it does add up pretty quickly. I don't generally have to worry about all the special permits and validations since residents of Idaho can get a Sportsman's package that has just about everything one needs to hunt or fish nearly everything around the state.
