Pack Of Wolves Kills Cattle On Glenns Ferry Ranch

By Starlyn Klein GLENNS FERRY - Just this week a Glenns Ferry cattle ranch became victim to wolf attacks.

According to ranch owner, John McCallun, the pack of wolves killed four calves and one cow. He says that's just what he knows of and fears there could be more. "I know there are more killed in the pasture. You saw how much was left of two calves. You take 2000 acres and try to find a piece a skin or a piece of bone," said ranch owner, John McCallun.

McCallun adds this is the first time he has lost livestock to wolves and worries the situation could get worse. "They've been seen along the rim chasing deer within two miles of Hammett and as they increase they'll come closer," said McCallun.

According to McCallun, he called Federal Fish and Wildlife Services to notify them of the recent problem and after a heated conversation he says Predator Control took action. "Predator control flew yesterday (Friday) in an airplane and killed two of them," said McCallun.

But McCallun says there is still one left in the pack that's on the loose and he wouldn't be surprised to see the wolf return. "He'll be here but that has nothing to do with it. There will be another 100 next year to take his place," said McCallun.

And he says he fears one of his children could be the target next time. "They play in these trees this heavy brush back here and Federal Fish and Wildlife can say what they want but a 10 month old, 12 month old even year old wolves will play with a kid. They will kill them and they're going to kill someone's kid," said McCallun.

Idaho 2 News called Federal Fish and Wildlife Services for comment but calls were not returned.

It's kind of ironic that the people who pushed the wolf reintroduction did so because the loved animals. Yet, now how many prey animals (including livestock) die, suffer, and live in fear because of the wolves. If I was an elk, I'm sure life would be a lot more fun without wolves around; and when my number came up, I'd rather have it be from a hunters quick bullet then from the jaws of a pack of wolves.

You guys got the wolve's we here in Cali. got the Mt. lions, their protected here and love venison.....
