I went to the wolf meeting last night and if your a hunter you better be scared. The wolves are coming and if the hunters sit back and count on somebody else voicing their opinion, then the opinion will be the wolf lovers.

When the wolf is delisted, probably in 2005, then UT will be managing it the way the public wants, and we better unite and voice pour opinion or we will be like Northern ID will little game and a lot of complainers.

The wolf advicates had great support last night so every one of you better start going to the meetings and voicing your opposition to allowing wolves to be protected in Utah.

If the wolf is made a big game animal they will want 50 breeding pairs in UT. Thats a shitload of wolves and the wildlife and cattle industry will suffer.

DO NOT SIT BACK ON THIS ONE GUYS.

I couldn't make it to the meeting last night, thanks YELUM for the info.

It sounds like a pretty sure thing that the wolves will be delisted and the state will have the say in their management. Just so we are all on the same page, what should we as sportsman be lobbying for?

1. Should we ask for no wolves at all, is that too much to ask?

2. Should we ask that they only be allowed in a certain mountain range? Which one?

3. Should we ask that they be limited to a specific population count, with any excess being hunted?

Maybe we should ask for no wolves at all, then if we have to compromise the end result won't be as bad. Any more ideas or suggestions from other states? Are there any organizations already doing battle on this issue? What is the best way to make our voices as loud as possible, what works, what doesn't?

Where does the 50 breeding paair figure come from?? In Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming the feds recovery plan is for a minumum of 10 breeding pairs per state. The management plans for each of the 3 states are for 15 breeding pairs each, knowing breeding pairs may be below 15 but won't get to the 10 minumum legally required.

After delisting (2005 is probably optimistic, due to envios filling lawsuits) each state is responsible for monitoring the population. Wyoming figures almost $ 1million to monitor 15 breeding pairs. Monitoring 50 will be much more and will be paid for out of your sportsman $$. Next meeting ask the enviros how much they are going to spent.

Good luck, don't let them, wolves or enviros, get a foothold.

If you didnt make any of the meetings in Utah you can write to the DWR in SLC.... Attention to wolf managment team... if you are a hunter then you need to express your concerns and tell them we dont want any wolves in Utah...weve worked sooooooo hard to get where we are with the elk hurds ... why would we want wolves to destroy it!

50 breeding pair would be a lot of wolves!! If they are going to be de-listed in '05 we should be able to keep some type of control on them with hunt tags and maybe keep the numbers in check. Thanks for the info Larry.
