alright fellow MM'ers here is a chance to get creative. I am looking for a way to mount a 4x5 set of muley sheds i found that score 186 2/8 non-typical. I have called a couple of taxidermists in the Logan area who are kind of clueless as to how to do such a thing. I have heard of drilling into the bases but I am not sure where to start. If any of you have ideas please let me know.

Well its easy Sean, You drive to my house and you can hold them while I screw them to my garage in MY new house. That wasnt that hard was it?

There is two ways one is a shed skull cap that is like a deer form for mounting the antlers it is the chepest way ($5-10) The better way is a device that is able to move and adjust the antlers for spread and better realistic positioning, I think it's around $30.

Try www.taxidermy.net the folks there should point you in the right direction.

if you would like i could give you my taxidermest (or something like that) anyway i could give you his number he does awesome work!!!! he is up in honeyville! my e-mail is [email protected]

I was out to a taxidermests house in Mendon He had some big elk sheds that He was mounting for someone. If you want his number let me know.

You can also get artificial skulls which already have the pedicels for mounting sheds. All you do is drill the right size hole into the base of each antler, put some quick setting epoxy into the holes, stick the antlers on and let it set up. Some of the new artificial skulls look pretty damn good. If you dont like the real white color of it you can shoot it with a little bass belly white. (white and a tiny little touch of yellow ocre) It will make it look a little more like natural bone. You can find the artificial skulls at almost any taxidermy suppy such as Van Dykes, Wasco, McKenzie, etc.

I use the shed mounting base that research mainnikins sells.
it costs around $15.00.. all I do is sand the base of the horns to match the cap, then drill and thread the horn to 3/8 thread. use a piece of all-thread about 2 inches long, put some epoxy on the threads, and screw it in the horn, then drill a 3/8 hole in the cap, put the horn through the cap, and a nut and washer on the other side.
"presto",,,I aslo put epoxy between the horn and base to help hold it from turning,, and when it is all set, I turn it over and fill the inside of the skull cap with fiber glass to keep the bolts from coming loose.

Hey BBH,

My brother has great experience with just such a deal. He is a taxidermist out of Logan. If you want to give him a call his name is Jared @ 1-435-752-1479 He does excellent work.

I think you need to do the dishes for the missus before you go shed hunting again!

Awesome rack, definitely worth mounting!

I have a dishwasher at home i can load the dishes you see are my brothers. we took the pic at his house when i went to show him. needless to say he wanted to add them to his antler collection.
