I just heard a rumor that Wyo is going to have pref pts for deer, elk, and antelope starting in 2005. Holy cow, maybe now we can draw some tags!

Hey Jim,

How have you been? I am looking forward to seeing what kind of point system they put in place. Real curious if they take the opportunity to make the internet application conversion. Seems like it would be efficient to do both at the same time.

Yeh, I read that, I was hoping they would do Bonus points instead of Preference points because with Bonus points you can draw anytime ya apply but not with preference points, max. point pool only.......... but if thats th eopiton then thats what we gotta do.
I'm curious if they will have seperate point catagories for the Pricey fee tags and the Cheap fee prices???? Kinda have guys stuck in one or the other.......

In reading the article on their web site, it looks like the preference points will only apply to non-residents. The few Wyoming residents I have spoken to were looking forward to the points program, now it doesn't look like they will be included.

Seems a little strange. What do you Wyoming guys think about it?

I wouldn't mind seeing a preference point system for residents. I apply for antelope in about a 40% draw unit and haven't drawn four years straight. With a point system, I would be guaranteed every two to three years. I have also applied ten years for a very limited mule deer tag and haven't drawn. I would love to have ten points to show for it. The point system was the only reason I was able to draw a moose tag after about 14 years of applying. The only thing that I don't care for with the point system is that I have some kids that will be old enough to hunt soon. It looks like they would be behind the start, and they may have a real long wait to draw a special tag. But, I guess that is what I had to go through. There are still some advantages of being a resident, and being able to buy an over the counter deer and elk tag.

I'm all for a point system, too. I have not drawn a Red Desert antelope license since 1991, and that is way too long to wait. But I would prefer a bonus point system like Nevada. I think it is the best way to go. I just went to the big game season setting meeting last night and they are opening up a mule deer doe season on a general license for area 64 in the Laramie Mountains. That's really frustrating, especially since every person at the meeting opposed the doe season. I just wonder sometimes.

Hey Boys,

Wake up and smell the roses!

The Preference Points will not start being issued until 2005. 2006 and possibly 2007 those that have preference points will have a chance to draw a license for a couple of years.

After 3 years of the PP System it is going to be a 6 - 8 year wait to be in the running. Just like sheep and moose.

Also, if there is a group of hunters that want to hunt together how will this work is some have PPts and others don't. What about the difference in license prices? The G&F does not know yet themselves how they are going to work with this.

Don't get too excited just yet! The only reason the GODS at the Game and Fish put this fiasco through is to add $$$ to their bank account.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-04 AT 09:38PM (MST)[p]I was told that they also would like to have more increases in fees!and set up premiums on the most sought after areas(in a nutshell like the bookcliffs, and "pauns" in UTAH)$$$$$.
The hard draws are going to cost as much as "special tags" quote!

ICMDEER- Nevada changing there pref point system soon to a bonus point system- no more buying the licencse to keep the point!
Has anyone else heard this?
