LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-04 AT 10:26AM (MST)[p]Check out the link below for some interesting changes to the 2004 Idaho deer season changes.

The most shocking change is "Convert controlled any buck hunt in Unit 56 to short general season." Anyone that knows much of anything about hunting deer in Idaho knows that the unit 56 tag was one of the toughest tags in the state to draw with around 2% draw odds last year. Unit 56 is going to get absolutely pounded by hunters this fall. Why didn't the F&G just increase the number of tag or at least make 56 a controlled hunt with unlimited number of tags?

Another interesting change is the "Commissioners enacted a four-point or better rule for Units 70 and 73".

What do some of you think about some of these new rules.

That sucks about unit 56. My guess is they can make 10 times as much money and will still only kill about the same number of deer since the season is shorter.

Brian-ID,
Thanks for keeping us posted on the changes in ID. this year throughout the spring, I appreciate it.
All I can say is "What is the #### is the IDFG thinking??? Turning 56 into a regular hunt after the years spent building it into a premier area in the west??
But equally as stupid is the decision to change the muzzleloader hunt in 75 to a "traditional weapons" only hunt. I guess the very small minorty in the buckskin crowd got their way. What a joke, I have not seen one hunter out of literally hundreds of hunters on that hunt carrying a "traditional" muzzleloader. Everyone carries an inline. Inlines still have just one shot, it is still just a muzzleloader, and with the restrictions preventing 209 primers, the #11 cap still is not that much more of an advantage over a "traditional" igniton.
You have to wonder, with the IDFG struggling for financial & hunter support, why make such dumb changes. Especially after asking hunters for their opinions and then doing exactly the opposite.
Tnanks Again for the updates.

Deerlove,
The F&G hasn't release all the details to the public yet but I would be very surprise if the 4pt rule didn't apply to youth as well.

I am going to drop F&G a email and find out about the 4 wheeler deal in 53. As I know it pretty well and there are alot of roads out there not maintained or driven on all the time. So that will be a good one to find out about.
