Anybody know how good the burris scopes are. I have been looking at them. I like the ballistic plex scope. How well do they work. I have looked at the charts and from what i undersatnd you sight them in at a 100yds and then the 4 other cross hairs are on at 200, 300, 400, 500. i am not big into hunting with a rifle other them dogs. I am going To NM to hunt oryx in NOV. I am looking at scopes for a 300 mag. any info on them i would be thankful.

ho,

I purchased a Burris ballistic plex and didn't like it at all. Fuzzy around the edges and I just could not get a consistant clear view through it. I was able to return the scope and tossed down an extra $200 and got a Leupold VXIII B&C. Never had a Leupold before. It was well worth the extra $$$. Great scope.

Me 2 cents

I have had alot of Burris scopes and use to swear by them....quality is still there, but they are not keeping up with the tec world.....go the next step and get Leupold.

I've had a lot of Burris scopes over the years and I've never kept one. They come and they go. You can not go wrong with the Leupold, dollar for dollar there the best thing out there. They are a great company, great lifetime warranty, great scopes. I buy other brands once in a while just to check them out, but have not found anything I like better than the leupolds.

I'd look at the Nikons and Zeiss conquest before I went with burris personally. Nikon is getting great reviews and I own a few and I really like them, but the company is pretty big and not really focused on there hunting optics. I called one time to attempt to arrange a reticle change out. After 30 minutes on the phone I was put in touch with a fella who was suppose to be in the know to find out that they did not do such things. With leupold the call would have taken 2 minutes and they would hook you up. No matter who you talk to there they know what they are talking about (at least that has been my experience). The zeiss conquest is nice. I like the fast focus eyepiece. The clarity is great. I've never dealt with the company.

With all that said I'd put a leupold on it. Good luck on the hunt.

OH! and another thing. Leupolds custom shop will engrave your turret with your actual ballistic information. You send them your load data: caliber, bullet weight, velosity and they will engrave your target turret to be on at 200 300 400 500 etc.. They use your actual load data to determine bullet drop. I believe it requires target turrets to do this. Check out their web site it is under their custom shop button. It is the way to go for a long distance shooter. It is not that expensive to do either. I have not had it done yet but hunted with some mule deer fanatics that both had it and swear by it. They don't like to shot that far but they are confident about 500yd shots with their 300 win mags. You mentioned that you like the ballistic plex option and this is more precise way to go. Good luck.

I agree with everything already said above. I have only ever owned one Burris scope, and have had to have it repaired twice. Will NEVER buy another one. Go Leupold and you will not be disappointed. Great scopes and greater warranty. Scott

I need to return my Burris signature series 4x16 mil-dot back for warranty work the up and down dial will not click damn hard to get good groups with a scope that changes by itself after every shot.Looking to purchase a new scope for those who have sent Burris scopes back for work do they re-turn your scope back quick or does it take months like everything else under warranty?

Burris is offering free GPS's and SPotting scopes with their rifle scopes. This tells me something. I just bought two scopes. A nikon monarch 3x9-40 and a Leupold vxII 3x9-40. Both are quality glass. Ron

You guys have me rethinking my choice on my .338-378 weatherby. I have a signature select 8-32x with the ballistic plex and groups are weird to say the least. I have put three in the same hole at 100 but then on other days I can't buy a 4 inch group. On the service question, they are very quick with the returns. This scope came apart inside and I had it back in less than two weeks. I don't know about the leupolds, the only one I have any real experience with had a serious parallax problem and I couldn't cook up a proper load for him as grouping was difficult to say the least. Maybe an older scope though.

Bought a Burris in 2005, had to send it back within a few months. Customer service guy was rude everytime I talked with him. I just purchased a Meopta and so far it is a fantastic scope.........

I thought my warbird was shot out but after all this talk I just ordered a new scope and no its not a burris.I will send it back and if they repair it maybe put it on a caliber that dont kick maybe a .204?

Thanks for all the info i have turned my focus to the Leupold 4.5-14 Boone and crocket scope. Peace out

I own two Burris scopes. A 4X of '73 vintage and a 3-9X40 of '03 vintange and they are clear, bright, and durable. These scopes have served me well and with no problems. Without reservation, I would buy another.

I have a few of both...Three Leupolds..MkIV, 3-9X40, and 6.5-25X50. Three Burris...each a ballistic plex. Never a problem with either brand of scope. Recoil goofed up the reticle of my 6.5-25; Leupold fixed it with no questions asked.

I've got several Loopys and one Burris. Burris holds its zero and the plex is accurate. BUT, don't like the size, the fact that the entire bell turns to adjust power, and that it was made in the Phillipines (Fullfield II; found out after the sale). Its functional, but I wouldn't buy another.

I think that the Burris is equal to the nikon, reason being if you look at some of the wholesalers, that have a ton of nikon and burris refurbished scopes for sale...

I have a Burris plex on my 30-06 it funtions well dropped the gun last season and the scope still funtions well...but I also have a leuplod and have had probs with them also, best scope in my opinion (affordable) Zeiss...

but if you have bukoo bucks get a Lica or a Swaro

I've had a Burris scope for 13 years with the posi-lock feature and i absolutely love it. Have dropped it many times and it was always still zeroed in. I agree that the Leupold products have better clarity but a scope that can go through the kind of abuse that i have put it through and still be right on is priceless to me.

I have several Burris scopes, one of which is over 25 years old. This scope has been tried and has been true. It was what I swore by until I could afford the best. I am not sure Burris put outs the same quality these days, but they do stand behind their products. On an elk hunt in Idaho the scabbard filled with snow on an all day snow ride. The scope showed signs of interior moisture after the trip. I sent the scope to Burris and their warranty was good, quick, and at no cost to me.

Bottom line, buy the best you can afford! When it comes to glass, you get what you pay for, IMO.
