Looking to go lighter and want to know what you would
use and would recommend! My ole Dana pack needs to be updated!!
Thanks

What exactly are you going to be using your pack for? Are you going to use it to hunt or pack camp/meat? I would recommend a quiet cloth, camo smaller daypack for hunting and a 2nd large internal framer for packing out your critters!

I currently use either a Badlands 2200 or 2800 for hunting and a Arc'teryx Bora 90 for packing. I can load my Bora 90 with enough boned out meat that I can barely stand when it is loaded! Believe me, it is a relief packing large loads with a pack that is designed specifically for handling exceptionally heavy and bulky loads! I packed out a moose by myself a couple years ago that was quite a ways in and was super glad I had my Bora 90! It saved me a trip or 2 and my body actually wasn't too terribly sore at the end of the day.

I would recommend going to an REI or several mountaineering shops and trying on a few packs.....with weight in them. Some will have different options that will be best suited for your particular style of hunting and packing. Some may fit your particular body size better than others. The thing I like about the Arcteryx packs is that they have several packs designed for specific body confirmations. Not many pack do this. Everyone seems to have their own favorite brand and each is likely a little different.

I just noticed that this post was for bivy hunting! Good luck if you are a die-hard bivy nut. I've tried it and it doesn't work for me! My preference is to pack in a small, portable camp that I hunt from each day. Obviously I'm not as mobile but hunting each day with 30 to 50 lbs on my back doesn't work...what-so-ever for me! Try quietly stalking and glassing with a 30 to 50 lb pack on your back for a couple hours and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about! Try it for a few days on 45 degree slopes with brush and rock....and it is craziness! Toss in rain, wind, and snow...oh my God! There are a few brutes out there that can effectively hunt this way but I have tried it on several occasions and failed miserably!
