Idaho 2004 big game regs online

For those of you interested 60% of the collard fawns in the Soda Hills study area were alive as of April 2nd and 56% of the fawns in the Rockland study area were alive as of April 2nd. I'm sure a few more have already died or will die but it looks as if this winter was close to average for fawn survival in these study areas.

As much as i have been out i havent seen any fawns up here. hope that they are just hidding and we didnt have a bad winter kill.

IdahoMuley,

I hope that the fawns are just hiding from you. What part of the state are you talking about? Are you seeing a lot of does without fawns?

Maybe I'm too optimistic but I think the winterkill this year will end up being close to average and not near as bad as it could have been considering what the conditions were like in January and February. As of the first part of April the F&G collard fawn study area that had the worst winterkill was the McCall area with 60% of the collard fawns dead. Considering that there was an early green up there shouldn't be too many more fawns dieing after the first couple weeks of April. Most areas should end up close to average with about half of the fawns dieing this winter.

I went shed hunting (a few miles east of Pocatello) for a few hours last Friday but only saw 6 deer because most of them had already moved off the winter range. I saw 1 doe that had 2 fawns with her and 2 does that had 1 one fawn with them. I did see a few carcasses around the hills but there weren't carcasses everywhere like I have seen some years. Other times that I have been out in the last month I have also seen a good number of fawns.

up around council we were out and we saw more does without fawns than with. but we are seeing a lot of deer. i think one of the problems is that there are no bucks here.
