Anyone hunted the Bookcliffs with a muzzleloader recently?

Been trying for a couple of years and finally drew a Bookcliffs blackpowder deer tag. I've hunted the area for cow elk later in the year, but never for deer in September. I plan to set up a tent camp and spend the entire hunt because I'm gonna be pretty picky when it comes to pulling the trigger. From what I understand, there are quite a few 22"-24" bucks running around, with a few 28"-30" thrown in, and I'm gonna try to find one of the latter. Any suggestions where to begin would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Email me I hunted it 3 years ago and have been back cow hunting every year since.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-04 AT 09:31PM (MST)[p]I'll call ya at work tomorrow or Wednesday. Better yet, how bout' you just schedule the time off and come and go along. I'm sure a good time will be had by all. Plenty of grub and cold drinks!

I might take you up on that but it depends on what I draw out of state.
Give me a call.

I hate to ask for anyone's secret spot but I also drew out in the book cliffs. We have hunted elk in the roadless area, but haven't seen to many bucks in there. So we are looking for any info. I have all summer to scout.
Thanks

What I have found when I hunted was the deer moved in between the archery hunt and the muzzle hunt. I think the elk hunting pressure moves them. So everybody that finds the deer in August shows up to hunt in September and spends a day or two looking. My advice is to make at least one scouting trip the week before your hunt.
If you want to pm me I will give you some areas to look at.

Hunted there last year, during any weapon hunt! I drew only having one bonus point, lucky huh. I wish I was as lucky this year with LE Elk... The hunt was amazing, a lot of good hunting, not very many hunters, and a lot of good deer. I would suggest going and scouting heavy before the hunt. We already knew exactly where to go to find the deer. I shot a nice 4x4 just at day break, first shot of the whole deer season (maybe). Anyway he was 24 inches wide, but man did he look bigger on the hillside! The worst part was two hours later I saw one even bigger... Isn't that how it always goes.... All I can say is that it was the funnest hunt I have ever been on.

Aggies1, sounds like you had a great time. I'm gonna take someone with to help keep me from pulling the trigger on the first decent buck I see. I'm already getting excited. September seems a long ways off, but it'll be here before I Know it. Still need to find a stove for my wall-tent and a couple of cots.

To me, half the fun of the hunt is in the preperation. I kicked my mileage up from three miles a day to five miles about a month ago. Hopefully I'll be in decent shape come crunch time. It sure is a lot easier to run with something motivating me. I'm gonna be shooting my muzzleloader a ton this summer. Come on September!

I also drew the books with my bow, I have a question for everyone if someone draws a rifle permit do they get to hunt archery and muzz also?

Aggies1, Where did you camp and hunt at out there? My wife drew a tag last year and we were out there also. You can send me a personal message or e-mail me at [email protected].I was just curious.
Thanks Elkhuntr
