Idaho Salmon Region

This is my first hunt to Idaho so we are walking in.
Are there many deer in the Salmon Region?
Would you recommend a unit there?
Would you hunt elk and deer at the same time.
What part of the season would you hunt?

Thanks

The salmon region is a huge area. Be more specific as to the area you plan on hunting. (ie Challis, Salmon, Leadore, etc.)

i agree with shelbys. or do you mean part of the salmon river? which is also a huge area.

shelbys
Thanks for the response.
As you can tell by my last message I need guidance about Idaho hunting.
I plan to camp in 21A. I don't know anything about the units except what I have seen in a Travel Guide. I'm sure it will be an adventure for us I just hope it is a positive adventure.
We plan to drive to the city of North Fork or Salmon and spend the night at a motel. We have a 28 hour trip from Texas and will be dead tired when we get there.
We want to set a base camp for the weak and weary then hike in and set a spike camp somewhere away from 4wheelers and roadhunters if there is such a place.
This is an elk hunt but we are interested in deer and bear.
Reading the hunting regulations leaves me a little confused.
Are the elk accessable on foot? I mean is it reasonable to hunt without horses.
Should we get a deer tag and what's the deal with bear.
There seems to be leftover deer tags. Why?
It appears there is a lot of pressure on bear. Why?
We certainly don't want to put pressure on any animal just to provide more money to fish and game. We support them as long as they are concerned about the animals and not the money.
What would you guys recommend?

Campmorgan,

Elk, deer and bear are highly accessible on foot in 21A. You are choosing a decent unit, especially for foot hunting. I dont have a ton of time to write stuff now, but I may get some time to shoot you an email.

Good Luck,

HS
