LAST EDITED ON Jul-01-07 AT 09:56AM (MST)[p]Thinking of buying a leftover Colorado first season cow elk license in GMU 4/5,any sugjestion where to start in these units would be appreciated.I know they get alot of pressure but they also hold alot off elk.I should be there a few days early to scout a little before the hunt.

I agree, Black Mountain and the Bear's Ears area, very close to each other and would be easy to get a cow. Hunt the ridge top in timber or steep hillsides near the top even if there is snow, that's where I have seen them during second season.

Is it worth buying a deer tag if they are any available for the second season ?

Thanks for the replies ,will be trying for a leftover license in these units .They have usually had leftover cow license in the past years , have no room in my house for any more horns anyway.

308 I saw a lot of deer by hwy 13 unit 4 3rd season last year,but have not hunted there (4) in years.I would get a tag!..............jim

LAST EDITED ON Jul-04-07 AT 10:00PM (MST)[p]If you are a resident it might be worth it to buy a deer tag, but definitely not if you are a non resident. This is probably the most overhunted unit in the state.

Saw over 150 head of elk opening day last year and not a single deer. If you're huntin high where the majority of elk are during first season, save your money.
