Bull Down

I'm calling the ethics police on this one.

Great bull-yes
Nice shot-NO

WTF was the shooter thinking? I give the hunter an F. He's damn lucky he recovered it and there's probably a whole lot more that we don't want to know about this fiasco. Someone needs to do some explaining so I can sleep tonight. Good lord. Piss poor is also coming to mind. Ethics? Can't help but wonder if this was the third or fourth elk of the season that he wounded and was lucky to recover. I could go on. It's hard to respect guys that don't respect the animals. Sick.

YOU'RE ABOUT TO BLOW YOUR STACK!!!

THE ONLY bobcat!!!

My shot, my bull. Hundred yard recovery. Only shot I took at an elk on the hunt. Waited for the bull to quarter away. Took along time picking the spot. You can here the draw. Angle isnt as bad as it apears. Im to the right of the camera. If you knew me you would know just how much I prepared for that shot and just how much I respect the animals. Clean kill Zigga my conscience is clear. Have a great day . It is possible to discuss shot selection with out being an A Hole. Try it sometime.

Thats a big bull. Congrats on a great bull , I believe I might have dropped my bow on one that big lol. I thought it was a good shot , pushed that arrow right up in the bioler room from the back angle, which is ideal next to a broad side shot.Must have been a good shoot as 100 yards later layed a great P&Y smoking bull.Congrats on a great bull and thanks for sharing it....

Congrats on the GREAT bull! Oh and nice shot too! Some hunters will never have the chance at a bull like that. I hope someday.....maybe this year during our archery hunt in MT I will get the opportunity to kill a bull like that!!!

Congrats on a great bull. I would have waited for a standing broadside shot but I never did take an ethics class. It just looks like the arrow arcked a bit while the bull was moving away. I still think you are damn lucky and should have waited for a better opportunity. Thanks for clearing things up and congrats again. Good luck this year. I guess I've witnessed too much flinging in my day.

Please explain the edited "hummmmm" post.

Zigga,
I filmed the shot. The mistake I made was not loading the entire clip. We watched the bull drink at seven to ten yards for a good two to three minutes. It seemed like a life time. Too close to draw and get a shot. That was Fin's call. I would have taken the chance at close distance. Anyway, the arrow does appear to come sailing in out of no where. It is an illusion. I can only reason that it's because I'm to Fin's left and slightly above or below him when he lets fly. Fin took the bull well with in fair shooting distance, (32 yards give or take a foot) quatered away and had a bow well equiped for it. What you dont see in the video is the arrow penetrating clear into the lung area. This bull was dead on the hoof. A great hunt, great memories...
For the record, Some audio is cut because my foul mouth got the best of me. When the bull came in Fin said "I'm Going to pass."
I said something to the effect of "king size B..." I didn't tkink it added to the clip, so I cut it.

Conch ,
You did a good job filming. You let him get close and held up through it all. Nice touch deleting the bad words but as I read your post I believe right about where you write that he said he was gonna pass , I'm pretty sure I uttered some of the same words you probably used lol...Pass?? Are you out of your freakin mind?....LOL...Thanks again for sharing it...

I've watched this clip a binch of times now. It's interesting because it presents a real life, although extremely tough, shot on a very fine bull. The bull is moving, it is angling very sharply away, I don't know the distance but am guessing 30+. Do you take a crack -- if you are off by a couple of inches in any direction you end up with a very badly hit bull, a very, very long couple of days ahead of you, and the chances of recovery probably pretty low. You don't have but about 5 seconds to make up your mind and take the shot. I can't say what I would have done as I sit here, but it is interesting to think about.

The hunter in this case placed the arrow perfectly. The arrow clearly penetrated well on a perfect angle, no doubt that bull was not going too far. Congrats on a great shot on a nice bull. Thanks also for the footage -- rarely do you get to see the a good, true-to-life hunting situation on video.

Rarely do we get input from both camera man and hunter. Now I can sleep and feel better about the situation. It pays to practice with your equipment.

Thanks everyone. Nice post hogliver. I left for work this morning after reading Ziggas post pretty fired up. I was proud of that bull and that shot . I feel better now. The hummm post was an edit. I had actually posted last night about the fairness of taking the bull off water and decided better not to get into an ethics debate lol. I watched the clip and it struck me that the bull looked like he was fighting his powerful flight instincts to get the drink. I think he knew he was in danger or maybe all wild animals behave like that when exposed to predators while watering.

What state? I figure if they want to drink without risk of getting killed then they can do it in the dark. Hunting over waterholes is fun even if it is manmade. People complaining about that will also say that hunting private property is unethical. Again, thanks for the clarification on what happened.

Florida.

And some people might say taking a 32 yard, quartering away shot is unethical if they don't know all the details. Oh wait, that was you.

And since the story has been clarified, perhaps a "I'm sorry Fin Little. I may have rushed to judgement without having all the details" would be in order.

Fin,

Sorry for posting the link.

Wow Florida has some nice bulls.

So I guess shooting a moving animal that is walking away is exactly what you are looking for???

If tears were shed from my posts then you need to go to Costco and buy some extra thick skin. I got several pm's regarding the poor choice of shot taken so I'm not the only one that didn't agree with it. Stick around these hunting websites for a while and you'll notice a lot of things you don't agree with. Thanks again for the clarification. To anyone that was offended just send me your home address and I'll send you some tissue paper with a big fat SORRY on it.

Zigger,

Since I'm unoffendable can you just send me $40 for not driving to Montana and kicking your A$$ ??

Nice bull, tough angle, but shooter said he was right of camera. From camera point of view, no way I take that shot. At the risk of sounding like a jack hole too, shooter was very, very lucky, unless as mentioned he was way right of the camera, but the bull was still walking regardless. Just my opinion which ain't worth jack at the end of the day. Good luck to you boys who have tags this year as I have none. But, I do have a heck of a taxi bill from 06' and will be back in 08'. Good luck.
