Anyone know when the regs are coming out or if they're out yet? You never know from year to year around here.

You never know with this state. Around the first week of May i think. Has anyone heard of any big changes for this year. I wonder if the late bow season went to a draw tag this year.

the regs usually come out in july or august which gives you about a week to plan out your whole season before permit apps are due. makes it pretty hard to hunt out of state.

Spartan....I do know that they usually come out the beginning of May, it just varies some years. Applications usually have to be in by the first or second week in June. Then usually get results the beginning of August.

I was at the game commission meeting in Spokane last month when all seasons were set. If you have any specific questions (species, units, dates) I can look them up for you and let you know.

Glen

I do know that they are going to issue a buttload of new doe permits in the Huckleberry unit. B.S.! They are supposed to be out by the end of next week.
Eric

I just got off the phone with my connection at the WDFW. She said that they are trying to get them on their web site by thursday evening. They should be available in print late next week. Hopefully!
I think that they should have them available by the end of February!!!!!!!!!!
Eric

I just talked with the game Dept. today as I work at a public licensing place. They said they were sent to the printers and should expect them by the 15th as that is when special app's are available for applying. You will have she said until June 20th to apply. Probably late next week is my guess...Tom

Does anybody know why Washington is so slow with the regs and special permits. They are even a year behind on harvest reports for deer and elk 2002 is the latest info. It doesn't seem like any other states have this problem. (except Ariz.)

Ironhead

Most other states allow all of the money generated from permit sales and license sales to go back to game management or the wildlife. It all goes to the ggeneral fund here, so we can pay for Lockes new boat. : (I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but it still sucks, especially for how much money is generated, and how much fish and wildlife is being cut every year.

Just think of how much money will be generated by going to 300 permits in the late entiat hunt at 5 dallors a peice and you figure 700 people hunted that unit last year.

Bone.....is a sweet boat thought, LOL.

Duckfvr....300 permits for late entiat?? Are you talkin late rifle?

no its for archery. they are going to permit now to keep some people out.

This is a sore subject with me and one we visit every year here in Wa. I talked to the Game dept several years ago with the complaint of late regulations, late permits and even later draw results. They said it takes that long to collect all of the data from the previous year as it has an impact on the current years permit quotas etc. This was all prior to the requirement of mandatory harvest reports in by end of the year. Since they now require all of the data in earlier they should have ample opportunity to get their data colated and out so we can get our results more than a week before season. But as you all know that isnt the case. It is frustrating to say the very least.

I'm sure I would feel better if I was sipping a beer on the deck of Locke's boat. Then I may not worry about late august draw times.

I know a couple of folks that work at WDFW in Olympia. They too wpnder why it takes so f-ing long to get their acts together, especially when, as you mentioned, all harvest reports are required to be in at the beginning of the year. Hell, last year they adopted a several year schedule in which all season dates had already been set with the exception of a few minor changes. How long does it take to add or subtract a few new regs or permits from a "master plan"? They didnt even finish with their update meetings until a couple of weeks ago. This is typical of an agency run in Washington. One of my friends with the WDFW said that they are capable of having all season changes set and ready for print by the end of February! My hunting buddies and I have attended WDFW meetings and written letters trying to get some changes in how they go about business. It is more productive to teach a turd to speak than it is to deal with them. It is all about the almighty dollar and how much those douche bags like Locke, Lowery, Gregoire etc can get thrown into the general fund so they can piss it away on useless sh!t! (But I'm not bitter) Haahaaaa..... What they fail to realize is that with better organization, listening to what us sportsmen want and reaching a happy medium, they would be able to actually sell more permit aplications, licenses, tags, etc and therefore make mo money. There are a lot of us that have stopped putting in for certain permits because of the way it is handled.
Ok, enough out of me. I need to go and throw some hay bales to calm down. Haaahaaa..
Eric

Don't worry there is room for both of us on the soap box! Lets not get the rest of the natives riled though or we might get bumped off! Or better yet lets rile them for some entertainment while we wait for our fr#$%^ng applications and results.

Its all a scam to recruit more money. Think about it. You can't even buy your species permit applications when you buy your combo license. You have to make a seperate trip just to do so and with the price of gas at $60.00 a fill up, look at all of the gas tax revenue they are collecting.

Locke may have a new boat, but I bought a new truck tonight. I blew my motor out in your neck of the woods this weekend. I was at the rest area outside Moses. I was taking the boat up to Tonasket. Decided to check the oil while the girls went potty. Two quarts low. I figured I could make it into the first conoco there. Started it up...see mechanic soon sign....wham wham wham chug chug chug. Decided to head to oil, picked up Madison then to Tonasket. I limped home after the weekend and tried all new ignition stuff hoping 40 dollars instead of 4000. The new engine cost me 40,000 instead. Want to go sheddin'.

Hope they come out soon, lots of planning to do if there is changes. My dad was a game warden for a long time in the skagit valley and it always ticked him off also because of all the questions he coulnt answer.

Does anyone hunt over in the bridge port or brewster area?

I sure wish the general rifle season would be moved to the end of october into november....but thats wishin..even better would be December, but oh well..
good luck to all

I use to hunt between Pateros and Brewster. The area we hunted there was not a lot of deer but there were big bucks. There are a few Whitetail around but mostly mule deer.

Geez I can't believe you guys. Don't you have even one good thing to say? The regulations and permit quotas will be out this week or next, same as it is EVERY year. Somebody commented that Washington is behind on the harvest statistics. Check out Oregon...the latest infomation they have is from the 2000 season. See, Washington isn't the worst. Come on, can't we be a little more positive? You guys all act like the world is about to end. Oh, and one more thought...those extra Entiat permits aren't going to bring in any more revenue for the state, as most likely all those people that will apply for the Entiat permit, would have paid the $5 and applied for some permit anyway. The WDFW is doing the best they can with what they have to work with. Give 'em a break.

Washintonian

These are some pictures I have posted before. The first two bucks were shot around the brewster area by a friend. And the last picture is a buck I shot in 2002 in the unit that brewster is in.

Nice Washington Bucks. I was born and raised in Twisp, just north of Brewster. It was a great place to be raised. Awesome hunting. The hunting season used to be split. Two weeks in October and Two weeks in November. It changed about the time I was coming about in age. It was awesome to hunt that time of year, but the deer just didn't have a chance. Everytime there was an early snow, all of the big boys were slaughtered. I'm actually glad for the deer that they don't do a rut hunt now except for permit.

Hey Craig, I tried to send you an email but that account must not work anymore. if you have time and read this you should leave your email address so we could chat about that area for hunting, as I have been going over there the past 4 seasons.
take care
T

Hey Boneaddict, you still in Twisp? I have been hunting there since I turned 6, 35 years ago, and have seen more changes in the seasons than I have fingers. I own 48 acres up Twisp River Road and still hunt there every year....................rf

Hi guys, saw the post and figured Id say hi, great areas up Twisp and Winthrop for mulies, huh? I have a good buddy who lets us stay at his place outside of Winthrop for mule deer,
I think I will try archery hunting for mulies this year up there, any tips info or good spots for bowhunters,?
Hows the turkey hunting been ?
Anybody do the elk shed hunt thing at oak creek ? what a madhouse, anyway take it easy and my thanks again to everyone who gave me the tips on my Little Naches archery elk permit last year. Didn't get a big bull but did get a bull (spike)

Hey fellas....just got back from Winthrop yesterday. Spent 4 days at Lake Pearrygin. Man, saw a ton of deer. Looked like really good buck/doe ratio. Been hunting up in those hills the last 12 years. Cannot wait to draw the late tag.

Huntnphool....that must be a pretty sweet little chunk you got up there. Let me know if you need any help keepin them deer out of there, lol.

I was just over at Pearrygin Lake myself a couple of weeks ago and am heading over to Winthrop again this weekend. I have a couple of acres over there so I go over quite a bit. Muleyslyr is right, there are a ton of deer over there right now and a lot of early antler growth. I found a shed in my hunting area that is a few years old and chewed up but has a huge base on it. It is almost 7" below the browtine and over 6" above it.
I have it at home, I just need to take a picture. I will try to get to it this week.

Isn't that a sweet place to grow up. What a childhood. I'd fish all spring, water ski all summer, hunt deer all fall, photograph and snowmobile all winter. At that time, no one shed hunted and I had the whole Methow Valley to myself in the Spring.

Boneaddict, you still live up in twisp, my father in law is the building inspector for okanagan county, he lives in twisp but works in omak. We hunt winthrop and twisp every year.

Sounds like a lot of us hunt the same area. Maybe we should plan an evening during hunting season to meet at Antlers in Twisp, I will buy the first round.............rf

Sounds like there be a bunch of us over at Perigen looking at the deer and camping. Im going over in a couple weeks at silverline. Been bow hunting over there for 10 yrs. See ya over there.

Kirkl: is that Gorski. Send me a PM if you don't want to use names. I think we should have a new Subject titled Twisp Bone. I need to get access to a web site to publish some pictures though. If I get around to it soon, I'll start it. Is anybody else on here from the area? My family owned the Shell station in Town, and hunting season was the last big hooray for business, before winter hit. I spent alot of time pumping gas and fixing flats down there when I'd rather been out chasing the big ones. I saw some tremendous bone coming through the station those years, especially if there was an early snow.

Are you married to Sarah then? I grew up with Shawn. He was one of my fishing buddies when I was younger. He was in my class in school. They lived like two doors down from my brother, so yes I know him.

No, Im married to his other daughter jill, shawn lives down the road about 4 miles from me. Whats your name and ill tell him im talking to you on the internet. Boy its a small world.

Thats cool. Please tell him Hi for me. My name is Doug Kikendall. Sorry I don't know Jill. Is she older or younger? Thats probably a good thing, because I'd hate to say that I changed your wifes diapers for her. I could harass her that she used to mess up our army men battles though.

By the way everyone, the reason this thread started in the first place. The REGS are out. Got my set straight out of the box this afternoon at Bi-mart. I'll post a new thread in case others are getting ill at the reunion of lost pals.

I been hunting twisp for 18 years, my family has had a camp up little bridge creek for a lot longer than that, but now we moved up never black pine.

We call it "Little ##### Creek". I saw a couple respectable bucks up by Black Pine Lake last year, also saw more hunters than I have seen in years though.....................rf

Oh you have got to be kidding me, "b!tch" is edited on this site? We really are raising a bunch of candy a$$ pansies these days........................rf

Right on guys, I stayed at the lake there and hunted that area around there for a few yrs. now there is just too many people and too little time, what is your guys tips on getting that 3pt or better..is it one of those things where you need to hike in a couple miles in the dark to get a deer???

I love the area but my success rate wasnt as good as it is now in a town near by. only problem is..PRIVATE PROPERTY! and BIATCH AZZ land owners who wont give you permission to hunt on there land and help there crop which the deer are eating and walking on all season....oh well!

P.S... WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT MEETING IN THE CHAT ROOM AT THE SAME TIME,,,SAY SUNDAY AT 9?AM???

Keep your eyes open next week sometime, and I'll post some photos of some Twisp bone. One of those is a 33" that I nabbed near blackpine. You are right about the people. The ehole valley is like that though. Not the safest place to wandering around the woods. I saw some fool in a tan sheepskin jacket with a white wool color on it last year. I wonder if he survived the season. THere was another guy up in the Chewuch that came through the checkpoint with his spike in the back of his truck. Proud as hell! Too bad it was a hereford. Of course I've never seen a three point hereford either, so I can see why he was frustrated. : )

Here was a P. lake buck out grazing. If I had been a cougar, he'd been out of luck. I found his sheds about 4 months later.
CLOSER_copy.jpg

That's a pretty neat picture.....sure can tell it's a local huh? Was that this winter?

You really killed a 33 inch buck near _____ pine lake. Man I cant wait to see the pictures. I quit rifle hunting the area but I still bow hunt it. I always make it over during the rifle season and stay at our hunting camp but, I just bear hunt during that time. I quided my uncle to a little 3x last year in the few days i was over, theres just way to many people during the modern season these days. Ill stick with the bow.

Boy they sure lowered the permits this year in the perragyn and alta and gardner units. Perragyn has like 10 permits. They lowereed them all by about 10 permits. Wonder why, did they have a bad winter last year or did a lot of bucks get killed during the season.

They had to give a bunch of any deer permits to youth and 65 and older people so they can shoot spikes and two points in a three point or better areas. They should make those permits antlerless or three point or better. I am sure there are some big two points that might never be three points or bigger but i am sure there were a bunch of future three and four point bucks killed.

They had a ton of wallhanger bucks killed with 25 permits per area, or whatever it was. I do alot of photography during that period, and they hammered the big boys. By the end of the season, there wasn't much left down in the lower elevations to breed, where most permit hunters were focusing. Honestly it was good they cut back, but it makes it hell to ever get drawn. That picture was taken during hunting season last fall.
Yes, I got a 33 there. He is actually closer to 32 now. I nailed him with my bow. I'll try to get some photos posted.

Nice addict, Id like to see that 33 incher. What are some of the size of the bucks you are seeing during the late hunt.

Lots of 160 class bucks, with a few 170 bucks. I usually see one hog per year. I had a shot at a 30 incher at about 20 feet, but I missed. All I could see in the scope was his eyeball when I pulled the trigger. A two point had just ran into me and my wife. She had just shot a nice three. All I could see were horns coming over this rock rim. I knew as soon as I moved, the two would blow. As the big boy came into view, I swung the rifle up, the two point exploded and the big boy spun around on his feet. I saw eyeball and pulled. MISS. Two other fours were behind him. They headed straight up, and I knew I had one last chance before they disappeared forever. I ran straight up inthe rocks until they came into view. The bigboy was blocked by the other four point. He took one step and was gone. It was an offhand shot uphill at about 200 yards. There was about 30 mile an hour winds with snow blowing in my face. I took the shot and I dropped the four point. It was a nice deer, but not the thirty incher. I spent the rest of the season trying to get bucks on film. Not the easiest thing to do in this state. The deer are all a little spooky. I find it so much more challenging to get a photo of a deer than to shoot one.

by the way, that was regular season October with the 30 incher. I didn't see any real hogs this year filming. I guess they all got shot with the permit guys. I didn't see any on the winter range either, and I spend alot of time looking up in the valley. It was a weird winter though. I think the big boys never really came down. They stayed up in the light powder, where lower it was crusted really bad.

Have you guys checked out the new firearm restrictions (or lack there of)? You can now hunt big game with a 9mm handgun and a few other puny little rounds. Not very responsible of the WDFW if you ask me. It is going to open it up for more wounded and lost critters because some goober thinks, because it is legal, that he can hunt elk with his Glock. Oh well, that is our state for ya.

"and I spend alot of time looking up in the valley."

Would that be Pipestone Canyon, Elbow Coulee, Wolf Canyon? I have some nice bucks from these areas as well, the one I took a couple years ago made the Washington book. Boneaddict, did you get my email? I didnt recieve the one you sent me for some reason. You can email me at [email protected] ..............rf

I sent you an e-mail and a pm. I'll try again. You sent me an email to [email protected]?????IF so I didn't get it. Try again, and I'll see if I can get you again.
Up to the valley is from Starvation Mountain to the Rendevous, down to Gold Creek over to Texas Creek and back up beaver creek. Lots of country. Here is another P Lake buck. This was taken during hunting season.

LAST EDITED ON May-15-04 AT 11:23AM (MST)[p]This is a pipestone buck that better learn to duck. He was a slick two point. The picture will be blurry. I resized it so you can get the general idea. This was also during hunting season. Look at that neck. Are you guys interested in more photos, or is this boring you all?

resizejailtime.jpg

That last one looks alot like the one I shot over in Pearrygin last year on opening day, but mine was a 3x3, obviously. Narrow but real tall. Had him checked and they said he was only 2 1/2 maybe 3 1/2 years old. He weighed 198lbs. at the butchers, without the head, guts, etc... Sure wish I would have found him in couple years.

Bone...keep the pics coming. If I send you some pics would you be able to post em'?

I'd certainly try. I'm kinda new at this. My email is above.
Here is a Colville buck. I was between him and his doe. He wouldn't slow down for nothing. Just a methodical pace. I think he would have ran me over If I hadn't moved. This was Nov 15th.

HOLDIT.jpg

Keep those pictures comin Bone. Really like seeing those Wa. bucks. Ill be over there next weekend at P. Lake.

Very swollen neck. Its amazing how big our deer get in this state but for the most part just dont have the antler development of other states. By all means keep the photos coming......................rf

My usual view of "the big bucks" of Washington State. I see them, but getting them on film is another problem.

We'll be there camping with the family, and a hunting buddy and his family. We do a little fishing and fun stuff around camp, but the main thing just driving and hiking looking for the bone. We will be at silverline #50, maybe run into u? Its alot of fun hunting on the eastside. But I like beating the brush over here to. Kev

Yeah, maybe sometime we can do a horn huntin' swap. I can take you either for Elk or Mule deer and you can haul me out for Roosevelt or Blacktail. I'd like to find one with a little mass from either species. Have fun! I might actually be up there this weekend too. I'll probably be chasing Triploids out in Rufus.

Sounds good to me we'll stay in touch through out the year, I got one nice 4pt shed blacktail. The darn things are pretty hard to find sometimes on this side. Also have a nice 6pt shed elk. Hey the lake that I will be at is in winthrop.

I'm very familiar with the lake, but not silverline 50. If I'm in the area, I'll swing through. We will wither be up there somewhere, or headed up to the Tonasket area. My in-laws own a house/cabin on a lake up there, and we might head that way.

Good luck at Rufus, I fished there and caught some dandys. My buddy caught a 20 last year, there great eating also.
