California Deer

Searched the archives but could not find the answer. Thinking about applying in CA in X3b. Looked over the stats for the 2003 hunt and see that the majority of deer harvested were 2 and 3 point bucks, very small percentage of 4 point plus. What is the general story about this unit? Road hunters, amount of roads, type of country, deer numbers, etc.

Thanks

Tell you what if you draw email me and I'll tell what know about the area, I used to have some property in the cal-pine subd...Good luck on the draw...

I'm putting in for the same zone. I hunted there about 6 years ago, hunted up at Mount Bidwell, and the Dismall swamp area. Seen a few bucks, but nothing worth shooting. Did see one huge 5x5 about 28" wide that someone got, and heard of a 30" comeing off the mountain. There were some road hunters, but not a whole lot. Warner mountains is a good bet, but it's hike in or horse back. I've heard there are some good areas in the southern part of the zone, right at the border of X36 and X5B, I think there's a road heading east right at the border. I have max points this year, So I stand about a 50% chance at drawing.

Manny, You know of anything north/north east of Ft Bidwell?

thanks, H.W
