Has anyone heard what the out of state #'s will be for western Wy?? There were rumors of them dropping dramaticaly.

I talked with a F&G guy in Jackson last week and he said the tag numbers in G and H will be cut in half to around 800 permits per unit. Western Wyoming lost 70% of the fawns and 30% of the adult deer. They suspect up to 1/2 of all doe absorbed their fetuses just to survive the winter.

These next few years will be slim especially, 4-5 years down the road. The drought over the past 6 years has taken its toll on the sage and habitat, which is passing the effects onto the deer herd. There weren't that many dandy bucks on the winter range this past year to begin with.

i think tags will get pretty slim statewide in the next few years. the area i hunt(western part of D) has had very poor fawn crops for 3 years straight now. i'd say 1 in every 15-20 does we saw last fall had a fawn with them. they look very poor this spring. its gonna get worse before it gets better.

All of this while Game and Fish is letting hunters shoot does and fawns on a general license in our southeast Wyoming. They said we had and excellent fawn crop and the winter here was mild, as usual. But we DO NOT need to shoot does.

But they (G&F) still don't get the concept that people want a quality experience, and there are almost no mature bucks on public lands. The whole management syatem amazes me.

I'm planning on drawing my 2nd choice anyways, but it would be nice to hit my 1st choice for a change! Keep the Faith.....

OK. Heres the real scoop. Regions G & H received 400 fewer tags each. The season was cut by a week. There was a significant winter die off of fawns. In some areas 50%. I think this was sound management by G&F. As an outfitter, I try and only take 6 deer hunters per year anyway. No doubt the shortened season and fewer tags will impact the guys who enjoy running 50-60 non resident hunters through their operation each fall. In my opinion THIS is whats negatively impacting the trophy deer herd.

Yep. That info came straight from the horses mouth yesterday in Cheyenne. I probablyshould have asked if the reduction was taken equally from the "Preferred" draw as well as the "Poor mans draw". I'm guessing that it will be.

my deer is a general area but i'm hoping they pick me for my first chioce elk it's only 8.5 miles to my honey hole from the house other wise i go 180 miles. i wouldn't loose my residency here for any amount of money

If there are 1200 nonresident tags there should be 720 for the poor mans draw and 480 for the preferred draw 60-40.
