Fellers.....if you're like me, and couldn't stand waiting to see the draw results posted on the DOW internet site, you can call the DOW normal business hours @ 303-297-1192(select option #5 to talk to a rep) to find out now. Just have your CC# or CID# ready for em, then it takes a whole 15 second wait to find out.

I was more than fortunate this year, pulled both the tags I put in for (statewide cow muzz elk and area 15 buck) and gained additional pref. points for bull elk and pronghorn. Anyway, thought I'd pass this on, hope you all get what you put in for. Later......

Hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. I guess I'll wait a half hour or so.

Thanks for the info Freedivr2. Congratulations on both your tags as well!

Good luck to all who applied.

Yeeeaaahhhoooooo ! Drew for Unit 12,13,23,24 ! ! Can't wait to get there. If you do call the DOW though be sure you have you CC or CID # though. The guy seemed pretty annoyed that I didn't have mine (called from work). Any info you guys mught have on these units is welcome. Thanks !

freedivr....you can get a preference point for bull elk AND still be able to hunt for a cow? Can you just buy a pref. pt. or do you actually have to apply? How does that work?

You only generate a preference point by putting in for a preference point as your first choice, OR not getting picked for your first choice hunt code.

Example, one of my group had zero points. He put in for a bull tag as his 1st choice and a cow tag as his second choice. He didn't draw the bull tag, but got a cow on his second choice AND he now has 1 preference point for next year's draw.

Presently, if unsuccessful in the draw, you get all but $3 back after the draw.

You can also apply for a preference point as your first choice and a cow tag as your second choice. That way, you for sure get a point and could get a cow tag too.

Hope that clears it up.

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

Txhunter58 explained that perfectly. I put in for a pref. point as my first choice, and cow elk muzz as my 2nd choice. That's how that worked, and a special thanks to Droptine for suggesting that to me last month!

wow...that's pretty nice. Here in WA. whether you have 1pt or 5pts. you put in for your hunt choices 1-4 or whatever, if you get drawn for anyone of the 4, you go back to 0.

Can you put in for just pref. pt. for bull first choice and not have to pay the entire liscense fee? Or do you HAVE to put in for let's say a cow tag for second choice?

And is that the same for deer?

You can apply for just a pref. point but you have to pay the full cost of a license up front. You will get all your money back minus the $3 app fee, but you will get your preference point.

Yes it works the same for deer.

I see...thanks. I should start doing that, I'm sure in 10-12 years I could fined somewhere to hunt by then.:)

In 10-12 years you could have had 3-4 good quality hunts. Don't hoard points, it aint worth it. Only takes a few points to draw very good areas.

I drew my 3rd season buck tag...first year hunting 3rd after couple of years hunting 2nd

My son drew a buck deer permit for units 11 & 211 during the 3rd season. I think we're going to have some fun. This will be his first deer hunt.

Thanks to all who helped by providing me with suggestions on which units I should put him in for. We're already planning our first scouting trip in August to check out the units.

Smokepole

Smokepole, congrats on your sons draw. let me know if you have any questions, I have been hunting that unit for the last 10 years.

Didn't draw my first choice, but got my second and a point. Looks like I'll be east bound and down come October.....
Hope the rest of you guys got what you were looking for....

good luck

Larry........if you're going to be anywhere near Pagosa Springs, I'd be glad to give you a couple thoughts on where to look for Bambi.......jest email me.....

Five Point

I'll send you an email, thanks for the offer. I was suprised my son drew, he did not have any points. If he had not drawn 11 & 211, he would have drawn 23,24 etc. as his second choice.

Smokepole

I drew my second choice, so I'll be like the Knack - off to chase a muley with the old smokepole this year. I'm already excited. I can't wait for Wyoming, Nevada and Idaho to get their drawings done. Could I hit the trifecta and have 3 good hunts in one year??

Congrats and good luck to all that drew in Colorado.
