Well it looks like a deja vu of last year except it's come early for us. Everyone is pretty much prepared for some bad times this summer again. Some major fires already burning a little to close for comfort to some of our towns. Hopefully the interface won't be hit so bad this year.
Here's some pics of a remote fire burning just over the hill from me. It's creating some great muley habitat. Can't wait to hunt that alpine this fall.

Nice pics BCBOY. Were you out taking these in your chute plane - LOL??? Seriously, I'm surprised you are that dry this early in the year. We'll have pleny of fires before the year is out, but nothing major in Wyoming that I know of so far.

Keep us posted on those big BC bucks.

It looks like the trees are burning while the ground is still covered with snow. I don't believe I've ever seen that happen before. Can you explain how this fire is sustaining itself?

I wouldn't be surprised if something pops up around here in teh next few days. We had a pretty good lightning show in the early morning last night. Here we go again!

I like the fires and what they are doing, but dang, I sure dont like the smoke!

Steve-Cool pictures, is that the Vermillion fire?? With all the lightning we've been having lately we're gonna have a lot more fires! Im glad i'll be leaving in a few weeks and be getting out of this smoke. See any big bucks lately?

Matt,
Yea, that's the Vermillion fire. It was 213 ha. as of this morning's report. We've been getting a crapload of lightning too. I suspect that more fires are going to pop up as this heat wave continues. The smoke down here is crazy ain't it? A total repeat of last summer. If this is June I wonder what August is going to throw at us. I've been noticing the temps in Whitehorse have been 31-33 degrees all week. You may just be in a surprise fire season up there too. LOL!
I haven't seen too many really big bucks yet but man have I seen some monster bull moose this week. I can't believe how far along they are. I saw several giants that I would love to pull the trigger on as they are right now. I wonder what they will look like come Oct.

CowKiller,
This fire is a lightning strike in an area that had a huge fire last year. It looks like it is burning some high elevation timber that got missed in last year's burn. The snow is what put out that fire in the fall. I suspect because of the intense drought of last year and the lack of moisture in the snow over winter and the dry spring we've had thus far, that things are just so dry that even with snow around the fire still travels in the forest canopy.

It is an interesting note that in one of the above posted pics I can see the exact spot where we killed a monster muley a few years back. I can't wait to see what monsters are going to be in there in the coming years.

Steve-That sounds pretty good about the bulls, hopefully one of us will be able to draw a tag up there and connect on a big one. I havent been seeing much for big bucks yet this year as well, i think they are all up pretty high. I saw a couple decent ones on the mine but that was a few weeks ago. Steve saw a 30 incher up there a week and a half ago and then Steve left for the North.

Ive also been noticing the temps up in the Yukon, whitehorse is usually very hot. I was surprised at the number of old burns in that country, they have had some BIG fires over the years! At least where im going there will be no trees to burn.
