Almost from Texas, born in Colorado but my dad was born in Plainview and lived there until 1952 when they moved up to colorado. Lot of my family from Commanche County or Quemado Texas.

I live 50 miles west of FtWorth. Do you know of any reasonable deer leases around there?

I lived in the Fort Worth area for 2 years. I would like to own land in Texas someday.

Hot chick capital of Texas, San Antonio. No shortage of large racks in these parts, if you know what I mean.

born and raised in Merkel (near Abilene) now live in Big Spring and will soon be scouting the sandhills for some more monster muleys - we've had nearly 20" of rain this year on some of our ranches - have had less than 8" each of the last seven years and have still managed to kill 16 bucks from 175"-208" between 3 of us. we're pretty excited about the potential this fall has to offer with all of the rain.
Hey Fort Phantom guy, I have pics of a muley that was mistakenly killed last year about 7-8 miles from Fort Phantom lake - he was a long way from home. They think he probably came from the Snyder/Rotan area - fair amount of muleys around there. He was about 16" wide - probably 2.5 years old.

Lubbock by way of New Braunfels here. I miss the scenery of the hill country but dont miss the humidity.

Ted, I went out last night for the first time this year and the bucks I saw were not as far along as I expected them to be. I did see 2 that will be giants, one is already over 30" and is heavy, the other has 2 brow tines on his right side and they are both over 8 inches, he also has double main beams starting. None of the deer I saw were far enough along to have grown G4s or even have their G3's yet. They are within an hour of both of us so you need to meet me in Lamesa one night and I'll show them to you.

Hey Hunttx,

Post up that muley pic. Would really like to see it. Haven't seen or heard of a muley closer than about 75 miles from here. Guess anythings possible.

sounds like those bucks are gonna be some toads - the muleys in Winkler/Andrews don't shed their velvet until October 10-20th which means there is still a lot of growth to be done. we did alot of scouting last year in August/September and it seemed that the bucks continued to add tine length until mid to late September, well after our whitetails had already stripped out. Too bad they won't open up a season west of Lamesa - would be some giants killed for a couple of years - not enough cover to last very long though - similar to what happened in Yoakum county. Holler some time and we'll go look at some bucks - we let a new state record get away from us last year - I watched him several times preseason and he has been seen in that pasture for about 4 years now. He should be back in his usual area around August/September - he's worth driving down to look at(easily 210" typical - maybe more) - last year 400 head of cattle pushed him across the fence one week before the season - I waited 7 days for him to come home and finally had to settle for another buck (16pt, 30",6"bases) - maybe this year'll be different.
