Any one out there ever hunted this unit. What can I expect as far as quality, quantity, private versus public, pressure, etc.? I know it sounds like a lot, but my hunting partner and I were supposed to have access to a ranch, but it seems like the owner of the ranch changed his mind and doesn't want anyone hunting there anymore...any information that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. We are willing to pay a trespass fee. Thanks in advance..

Buckdropper,

I too am going to hunt 43 this year. I have never been in the unit either, but I am heading on a scouting trip in a couple of weeks. Are you limited to hunting areas with roads, or are you planning to pack in with horses or on foot? Also, which weapon/season season are you hunting?

I hunted it a few years ago with muzzle loader in the wilderness. There are some good bucks killed in the unit every year and the buck to doe ratios are very good. Put your email address up and I'll tell you what I know about the unit.....Steve

Steve,

You can email me at [email protected]. I am also going in with a muzzleloader and any details that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

We will be hunting the first combo rifle season starting on Oct 16th. We usually hunt on foot and don't have a problem with hiking. We try to get as far off the roads as possible. We also have access to quads, so if it would be more useful to take them, that is also a possiblity. My email address is [email protected].
