My son and I drew deer tags for Nov. for NM 5A. Any idea what we can expect? He is 14 and would like to see him take a decent deer. My e-mail is [email protected] Any help is appreciated. I have BLM maps on the way.

search the archives - a couple of months ago we bought landowner tags for 5a and I asked the same question and got alot of good responses and some pics of bucks taken in 5a. I've heard there's ton's of does and a few good bucks with potential for some great bucks - also try to hunt the last few days of the season(rifle season) as some possible early rut activity starts. I met a guy last year while hunting 2B that had killed a 192 gross typical in the 5a public land area three years ago. He really talked pretty highly of the area - that's why we bought the landowner tags. email me if you come up with any info on the area and I'll do the same for you - [email protected]
the ranch we're hunting had a 202" typical and a 214" nontypical taken off it 3 years ago - so the area has alot of potential and I think they've had pretty decent rains so far this year which should make a big difference. watch the Jicarilla muley videos - will surely get you pumped knowing what that area can produce if the bucks have some age on 'em. Good luck! ted

I just got the videos today and finished Vol. I and going to go back and check out Vol. 2. Awesome deer!

Hi m1fan I just got your email I am just a little slow.
I will be willing to help you on some places to check out.
I have hunted it 3 years and have a pretty good idea on
where to find a good buck. Easy county to hunt but thick
in areas so that will make it advantage big buck. When you
get your maps give me a call and I can tell you what rock
to go sit on. Not a sure thang but thats where I would go.
Call eve. Im in Cal. 530-893-4562
