Arizona Unit 9

Hey guys, a friend of mine was lucky enough to draw an early rifle Unit 9 Bull tag here in Az this year. I heard him say that he has no one to go with and has never hunted elk before. He also can't afford an outfitter. He's been doing all the scouting he can so far but hasn't seen too many good bulls. I'm not sure he even knows what a good bull is. I'm going to try and get out with him for the first three days. I've never been in Unit 9 but know alot about unit 3C, 4A and 4B. He'd be happy with a 300+ bull. Can anyone point us in the right direction or be willing to trade some info on the units I know?? PM me if you'd like to. Thanks!!!
Carl

I cant hardly imagine he will have any trouble finding a 300+ bull on 9. I will be there for a week in mid Sept( week before the archery elk hunt). I will give you a starting point if you will pm an email address. Great tag you guys should have a hunt of a lifetime.

Start near Grandview Point. There are tons of elk in that area most years. He'll have no problem finding a bull much bigger than 300, that is the Disneyland of elk hunting during the end of September.

I had a pronghorn tag in 9 a couple years ago, the goat hunting was nothing special but I saw several 350+ bulls and a bunch of 330 class. I'd think a blind guy with one leg could kill a nice bull there on the early hunt. lots of trees and pretty flat, until they start rutting I wouldn't expect to see much.

Thanks to everyone that replied and PM'd me!! You guys in MM land are awesome!!!! I had some great offers and hope to get my friend a decent bull.

Just spent 8 days in AZ unit 9, PM me, I will try to help your friend out.

Make sure you guys save a few for me on the late rifle hunt. Sounds like the bulls are big on the bottom, and weak on top, is that what you guys are seeing? I'm not going to be able to do much scouting until after the rut.
