I drew a region D tag. I drew it last year and hunted around baggs. I found bucks but I also found a million other people. I saw one ok buck. I also hunted the second season area North East of rawlins. Saw very few deer. I killed a small 4 point the last day. I am looking for ideas of places to get away form people and have a decent chance of a good buck. I am going to bowhunt it in Sept. Also any whitetail areas that are accessable? I'm not afraid to hike! any info would be great.
Thanks in advance!!

Hunted D last year also. We stayed in Encampment and hunted Medicine Bow closest to town. All small deer at the butcher's, although the only big ones (2) came from Battle Mt. area. I saw a shooter day (5pt) before and nothing hunting. Friend shot a small fork but that wasn't what I went for, so I went home empty handed. We drove down by Savery and saw loads of hunters too. There were plenty by us but they hung out near the roads. If you hike a mile in, you'll be good. Singer peak, Dillon or Copperton areas are harder hunting, but less people. There is a lot of BLM land around the N.F. We drove first road North, off Hwy 70, once in the N.F (East side). Didn't like the hot tmeps. This year we are going to area A, Nov. 1st opening. Maybe snow or cooler temps. More whities mixed with the mulies there though. Later.
