Elk Bedding Because Of The Heat?

I went up last weekend to do some scouting for the hunt and didn't see squat. I found a ton of elk crap that was maybe a month old, it was only at about 7,500 feet. I would have expected most the elk to have been in the high country a month ago. I have been talking with a few buddies that have drawn LE's. And they have told me they have only seen 1 350 bull all summer. Is this because of the heat?

I don't exactly know what unit you are scouting, but I have a Utah LE tag, been scouting alot and have noticed the bulls don't hang out too long in the morning, and only come out right before dark. With that said, Still seeing TONS OF BULLS!!! You may want to change your scouting approch- im not trying to be argumentive but just a thought.

Perhaps you need to go to an area that actually HOLDS elk. Or maybe you need a better hunting partner that doesn't distract you from the task at hand. Just kiddin' Orison!

Actually, the heat does play a large part. Like HP said, the elk aren't showing in the mornings because most likely, they have already drank throughout the night when it's cooler. The important thing is going to be to find water in an area that you know holds elk. Because elk need to drink twice a day more often than not, that is where your gonna run into them.

CH@S&H What do you know? There is a reason you and I are not teamed up any more.

I am talking about Utah. I did go to another area a few days ago, but still only saw 1 elk moving early in the morning.
