Wowzers the bucks I have seeing lately . Texas will have a banner year . Also watching a group of young bucks in NM that will be super in the future . Off the beaten path so I hope most of them will grow up. The only problem is nearly all the deer Im watching seem to have little fear of man. Mostly I suppose because they are not bothered much wher they are at .

I have seen some pigs as well, one is a 3 1/2 yr old that will gross in the mid 170's and has an 8" drop on his right side. He is the most unique but I have a deer in the low to mid 180's spotted that is 32" wide and will be really heavy. I have yet to find any of the big deer from last year but I am sure that they will turn up. I did catch glimpses of a deer last week that looks to have a ton of potential, he is extremely deep forked but not to heavy or wide yet still has the potential to bust 190" when its all said and done.

Speaking of the bucks you seen last year....what ever happend to finding the sheds off the bucks? Did someone beat you to them? Have you found any of them?

YB,

We have had quite a bit of rain this year so the grass is kind of tall making the sheds hard to find and the rattlesnakes hard to see as well. I have found 13 sheds in 3 trips but none of them from the big deer. I have not spent a ton of time looking due to the high number of snakes in the area, I found 5 sheds and saw 6 rattlers my second trip. I have only looked maybe a total of 3 hours. Its loaded with sheds but until it gets colder I am content letting them sit, they'll be a lot easier to see and the snakes will be holed up. I dont believe that anybody has ever shed hunted this area and hope to find a few slugs.

I saw a young buck with really long tines on the way into work this morning. I would think that there will be some toads taken out of central and south central texas this year. We had a really wet spring and the wettest June on record in over a hundred years.

Hey Drum, I believe you about the snakes. I saw a huge snake in New Mexico last year, and it was not much over 40 degrees outside. Lucky for my son, who was poking around in his cave, it wasn't 70 degrees, or we'd have been in trouble. If you get the chance, "thin out" the snake population before deer season for us, will ya? I'm scared of those damn things.

Only a couple months left,

Where in Texas are you talking about? I have a hunt planned in the Panhandle in Armstrong county. On a ranch adjacent to the Palo Duro park. This area is totally new to me. What can I expect? Quanity? Quality? Anyone know anything about this area?
