Scouting/Hunting Advice Needed

I would like to get your opinions on my scouting and hunting situation this year.

I drew a tag in a unit that I have hunted for several years. My partner and I have seen hundreds of deer over the years, but just a handful of big bucks. The unit is largely public land, and the area we usually hunt has roads and road-hunters. (There are some remote canyons and draws that are hard to access, but we have never seen any deer in those areas, just bighorn sheep) Most of the does we see have fawns or yearlings so I know there are bucks around and I found a 3-point shed about 200 yards from my hide when scouting this spring. My work schedule this year prohibits me from getting out until the second weekend of deer season, but I do get to hunt for 6 days.

I have a few questions for you guys:
(1) What would be the best approach for locating a big buck 6 days into deer season?
(2) What can I do scouting-wise to help accomplish that?

Any advice is appreciated!

I'd like to hear responses to this myself. In my experiences (and I do not have the experience that some others on this board have with mulies) it seems that the big bucks don't necessarily move areas when the hunting pressure starts. They turn nocturnal, find some heavily brushed areas, and sit in one spot all day. I'm sure many hunters pass by big bucks every year, and never even knew they were there. So, I would find a vantage point, and glass, glass, glass, and glass. We'll see what the experts say.

I would say that you are looking in the right spots. Beacause big bucks are going to push off into those remote areas during the hunt, and if there are a lot of road hunters you can bet that the big bucks will be in the most remote areas possible. I know a guy that hunts a very remote area and he will go three days with out seeing a deer or any sign of a deer but when he see's one it is almost always a big buck. I would say to Scout these remote areas as hard as possible if you want a good buck because you will hardly ever kill a big buck off a road unless you are very very lucky.
