LAST EDITED ON Jul-29-04 AT 03:16PM (MST)[p]I'll be hunting in G again this year. I won't have any time to get out before the season to scout. My only option is to study topo maps and aerial photos. What type of terrain or topography do bucks prefer? Should I focus on rock slides with scattered timber? Or should I find a source of water at a higher elevation? Or is there something else that I should find? Let me know what you guys think.

Was up there a few weeks ago. Bucks are scattered from the road all the way up to 10,000 feet The big bunches were way on top feeding late. If the warm weather holds they should still be there come september. They seem to prefer the rocky slopes with a little vegetation on them. Not sure if that helps much.

Been there a lot. Rocky slopes early and late. They usualy have water somewhere in the mix. If you have friends, hit the timber and drive them. If there below you when they break, they'll go down and around. If above, up back and out. Sometimes they won't go at all. Good luck and have fun.

You know there aren't any deer in Region G. Next year you may want to try to draw in Utah. I hear the hunting there is outstanding.
