As most of you know, my wife is handicapped and so the areas we could hunt were limited, and her mobility is very limited. This evening after seeing this bull from 1/4 mile, she insisted she could walk, or hobble, the 750 yards to get to the base of the mountain where she would have a chance for a shot at this bull. She shot the bull 10 minutes before dark and there was no way to get her up the steep mountain to where the bull was killed, so we have no photos of her at the kill site. She hit the bull 4 shots in a row, in the chest, with the 1st shot being 390 yards and the final shot 350 yards.

I was so proud of her dedication and the desire to try to harvest this bull, knowing that she would pay for the walking she done with a few days of burning pain. And then to make 4 shots to the breadbasket of this great bull, made me even prouder. I don't think I could have made the shots she made.

And a special thank you to the good friends that were with me when she shot it, and a couple of good friends who knew we were hunting this bull, and seen our lights up on the face of the mountain, who immediately donned their packs and came to our rescue to help pack out this bull. Trevor Gadd, JD Nielson of Jorgenson's in Richfield, and Jeff Bates, owner of Bowery Haven at Fishlake, and our son Jace, we don't know how to thank you for what you done for my wife and I last night! You are our hero's...
Hope you all enjoy...

And to those of you wondering about the Mossback attire, Doyle donated guide time and help, elk calls, shooting sticks, a vest and hats for us, and a commitment of additional guides and help if we needed it, all at no charge to us, thru the Mossback Foundation, that donates to the handicapped hunters.

The bull has 8 scoreable points on each side with another 3/4 inch point on the left sword tine. He has 60 inches of mass with super mass in the sword split. Incredible character!!
Incredible hunt!

Beautiful Bull!! Congratulations to your wife. She must be a very strong willed person to do what she did! Being from the east and not personally involved in the hunts on a day to day basis, I gotta say I am impressed with the help that the pros gave you!

Yelum

PS Kudos to mossback for their generosity.

Thanks guys!
The emotion that went with this hunt was simply amazing. I was honestly hoping that a nice 320-340 type good looking bull would present itself, and I told her that. She would only say she wanted a bull comparable to or bigger than her daughter's bull and would hold out. Well, she passed on every bull we saw, including a 330 bull at 100 yards. I told her to be realistic where she was limited on her mobility. But she held firm and as fate would have it, she done what she set her mind to do. To say the least, I am totally in awe of what she accomplished, and what she went thru to make me proud.
So now, I am 3rd fiddle with my 353 bull. What a few years it has been to have the opportunites we have had as a family. My 353, my daughter's 383, and now this giant for my wife!!!
Years ago I hoped for one big bull, and now we have three amazing Utah bulls, and my "hunt crazy" son is next in line!
How much better can this get!
I wish everyone would have had some of the experiences we have had. And thanks for the comments. She is now just starting to realize that what I have been trying to tell her about her hunt, and how special it was, is being confirmed by what she is reading from everyone here...
To have people that we don't know personally, say good things about her bull is very humbling to her.
Thanks again everyone... I wish you all the best of luck!
Rick

Rick,
Congratulations to you and your family. Having certain limitations and still harvesting a great bull makes this a great accomplishment.

Nice job everyone!!!!!!

I was able to come over the Ricks house last night and look at this bull. It is a GREAT bull with lots and lots of character! It is an amazing bull by any standards but for your wife Rick, it is simply Unreal!

It just goes to show you that with a little effort and patience you can kill big nasty bulls on any unit here in Utah!!!!!!!

Again, great job on a great bull!!!!!

Now lets go up and kill me one just like it next week!!!!! :)

Congrats to Bev, Rick and Jace. Job well done! It does my heart good to see a family doing what they love and having it all come together. You guys have always been great friends and I will always cherish your friendship. Awesome bull and an awesome family!!!

Talk to you soon,

L.T.

Thats what its all about I am sure this hunt will be in the family hunting stories for a very long time what a great bull.

Awesome bull. Awesome story.
I can't wait till my wife or one of my sons draw a tag.
Finally, something good said about Mossback.
congrats to your wife.

Great Job Guys!!! That's an awesome bull. Glad to see it come together for you. It doesn't get much better than that for a family to be together out hunting big bulls. When do I get to see it?

Now don't tell your secrect spots to FLelkHunter, Give them all to Tatter instead. Ha.

Good Job.

Incredible hunt, sounds like I need to take some hunting lessons from her! I appreciate her strength in this hunt and holding out for a monster bull !!! Great job!

That is a stud of a bull. A big congrats to the lady. It sould be hard to top a bull like that in 2 lifetimes. Your wife put forth more restraint and effort than most have. We can all learn from someone like her.

Thanks for the pics and story.

I have the energy to get this one in because it is antlerrick's wife!

Make sure your wife knows I am proud of her! I have no idea how she feels but can kind of relate. Tough deal for her for sure! Her bull is awesome for anyone and I bet she is proud! I know she was looking forward to this and did a great job and got a great bull!

4 shots over 350 or something? All hits! She must have let that rifle do some walking for her! Smart gal! Ha! Anyway, the antlerricks are great people and the mrs was well deserving. Let the great bull and hunt memories take over for your worry! There is nothing to worry about just enjoy the bull!

I will call you soon Rick! Again, Good for your wife, great bull, and great job getting it and in on it!

Rick, That is a beautiful bull. Congratulations to you and your wife. All that time spent scouting paid off big. I know that wasn't an easy hunt. Great job!!!

That is just an AWESOME story. Thanks! Does a heart good to hear a story such as this. Congrats on such a wonderful accomplishment. And an AMAZING Bull to boot.

This is Mrs. antlerrick,
Thank you for all your awsume comments! They are really fun to read. You made me understand what a unique bull we got. I knew when I first saw the antlers coming across the field on JD's back pack, "Wow! this isn't the bull I shot. This is huge!" There is no way I could have hit it if I knew how big it really was. Needless to say, I was in Shock for several days. I still wonder how I ever hit it. It was so cool to see it fall and roll down the hill!!! Rick always takes good care of me. During the hunt was no diffrent, he was always makeing sure was warm and comfortable and not over doing it. He's the best Husband and Guide anyone could ever ask for. I owe a Hunt Of A Life Time to him. Thanks Dear I love you!!
"The Big Stinky Bull Killer",
It use to be..MoM

PS. Congratulations on the Big Bull Mrs.TY killed! It's Huge! Or as Rick would say, "Its a PIG!"

Make sure Rick knows who got the bigger bull!;-) Hell, you did better than me too!:-( No, we all got great bulls and had a great time doing it. I honestly mean this, enjoy the bull, no worries! You are in GREAT hands!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-22-07 AT 03:26PM (MST)[p]Hey Ty...its a*r again..
Don't worry, they both keep rubbing it in, but all I tell them is that it doesn't bother me a bit to have the littlest bull in the family!!! I am so dang proud of both of them!
Now we've put the pressure on Jace when he draws, but I have no reason to not believe he'll beat us...He has seen more monster bulls at his young age than I have seen all of my life..
Working on those other two photos of Chris' bull right now..
Later!

ar,

I have been reading the threads. Of course I love my wife's elk and story, but this one of your wife is tops! I like her bull more and more everytime I look at it. That cane laying in the weeds puts it in perspective for me. Until people have a spine injury and know what burning pain is they have no idea the grit it took to get this bull. Congrats again to her and to you for all you do. You are like SaddleSore says, you and him are elk caddys!

I also like MortgageMan's bull and story. There are also great stories recently besides these. Shellie's Dutton bull is also a good deal. There are some great stories and some very humble people here. Utah elk hunts are unreal!

ktc,
Your right about the perspective of the cane. Very few people can understand the burn and pain that you and her both experience. I wish I would have been able to video her heading across that meadow to get to the base of the hill. What is a 7-8 minute walk for the majority of people, and is taken for granted, was a 30 minute ordeal for her. She hasn't walked 1/2 that far at one time in the past 5 years, plus she had to walk back alone while we went up the hill to get her bull, and half of that long walk was in the dark on very uneven surfaces. And as you know, she has paid for it dearly, with the pain finally getting back to her pre-hunt stage on Saturday.
That is what really makes her accomphlishment so amazing.
I can honestly say that I don't think I would have made that walk, or even considered hunting, with the condition she has.
The neat part for her is to hear people's comments, and watch their expressions when they come to see her bull in person.
Ty, I appreciate your great friendship, and know you are one of the few who can really appreciate her success.
It is so neat that the women are getting in on the success that used to be for men only. It is not for all women, but those who have a desire to go on a hunt like this, have this opportunity to do so. This has been a dream of hers for many years, and now she has done something that she didn't think she would be able to with her disability.
And again, thanks to everyone...You have made an amazing lady very proud and humble with your great comments...
Rick

Awesome story and pics Rick!
Congrat to your wife and to you, for a monster bull and a job very well done!!!
