There have been many discussions on this site regarding the cost of hunting. I am interested in hearing what people are willing to pay for a mule deer TAG. The following is a non-scientific opinion poll which will be used for......absolutely nothing. But it may bring up some interesting points.
Please consider the following:
This FICTIONAL western state has 3 seasons for mule deer (all rifle hunts)from which you can choose. The tags are allocated without preference to residents and non-resident via a "dutch auction", where all applicants submit a bid for a tag. You only get 1 chance to bid, and when tags are allocated, they are given in order of the highest bid.
The seasons are as follows:
First season, October 5-October 12, 35% success, average buck harvested is 3 years old.
Second season, October 23-October 30, 45% success, average buck harvested is 4 years old.
Third season, November 10-November 17, 55% success, average buck harvested is 6 years old.
All hunts are the same regarding public access and deer herd (size, buck/doe ratios, etc).
The questions...First, how much would you be willing to pay for a tag? and second, are you answering as a western state resident or non-resident?
For me personally:
First season: $25-$50
Second season: $50-$100
Third season: $250-$300
Western state resident
Your feedback is appreciated.
