Sisqhunter, Try unit 1 up around Priest lake ,Late november. You catch it just right it can be very good. East side of the lake. Another good area is up Lightning Creek by Clark fork. Might even run into monster muley Lightning creek. Saw one in bow season last year that was one of the biggest I have ever seen.
Good Luck,Larry

Thanks Larry,
You think this would be a packin type hunt or a park and day hunt type thing. I've heard that time of year is peak rut and you don't have to pack way in to find em. any truth to that??
Also what towns are nearby those areas you mentioned, I have friends in Rathdrum.
Thanks Barry

Sisqhunter, Clark Fork Is right next to where lightning creek drains out .You want to be up Rattle creek which comes into Lightning. Nearest town to Priest Lake is Priest River. If you have a friend in Rathdrum he should know where thats at. You from northern California?

Thirtyincher,
Yea the real northern calif. I live in a little mountain valley called scott valley back in the klamath mountains a stones throw from the oregon border. Towns are Etna (pop 650)
Fort Jones (pop 550) and Callahan (pop 50) and that's it.
Population has dwindled here because of the "eco freaks"
being so successful at shutting down the logging industry.
I love where i live but wish it was in another state. Everything is influenced by the bay area and so. calif. Been hunting blacktails all my life and actually the hunting here is still pretty decent despite the fact that the lions take a heavy toll on the heards (another example of so. calif bleeding heart idiots). Any way got a litle taste of north idaho whitetails last year and i think i want to get serious about em in 05. Any pointers would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks Barry

Sisqhunter,

I was raised in northern californicator. I lived at Lake Berryessa and hunted blactails all my life.Went to school in Winters and St Helena in the Napa valley. If you can be a succesful Blacktail hunter you can hunt anything that walks.Any one who says whitetails are the toughest to hunt has never hunted Blacktails. If you get up in my neck of the woods drop by. I live in Clark Fork

Larry,
I was raised in the santa cruz mts. Skyline blvd. above boulder creek. 1970 killed my first blacktail 10 steps off the back porch, there were lots of deer there then. My grandfather had
(probably still has) a very good friend near berryessa his name is Harold Moskowite (i'm sure i screwed up the spelling).
There is a town near winters called Moskowites corners. I spent a great deal of time there on Harolds ranch with my grandad fishing for bass and hunting bucks. We killed some dandy blacktails there in the 70's. Moved to the real northern
californica in 79. God i hate calif. If you know of anybody looking for a very qualified microwave radio/ wireless technician (i work for a local independant telephone co.) in
northern idaho please let me know !!!
Thanks, Barry

Sisqhunter, This is a very small world. I use to sneak into Harolds place ,me and the Pridmore brothers who live right down the road. In fact I use to take Jeannie Moskowite out alot. Just behind Harolds was a ranch called Mezacapas. I have killed alot of bucks from there and harolds. I used to go with a girl who lived just past the corners by the name of Deanne Gomez. My brother in-inlaw use to work as a bartender at Moskowites,Neat a a small world we live in. You get to Idaho look me up.Larry

Hey Larry-

You say you guided in southern Idaho. Now anything south of northern Idaho, everyone up there considers Southern Idaho. Like which units were you in? 54,55,56,57,73, or are you more like around Stanley all that area. If you don't wanna disclose yur information here, would you drop me a line in my inbox. I'm interested to hear where you took alot of your bucks. And see if its in some of the same places, my dad took 8 of his 30 inch plus bucks. Thanks man...by the way keep posting the great bucks.

Larry..ya those are some good buck producing units. Had a friend that shot a really good 31 inside 35 outside spread 9x7 out of 76. He was elk hunting and killed it on an open hunt. But I was just curious where you were hunting. Thanks
