Hey all just thought I would post a pic of the bull my dad harvested yesterday in the depredation hunt down by Pioche. I had set him up in front of a juniper when we heard the bull coming in, and I dropped back behind him about 60 yards and did the cow calling. The first bull to come in was about a 300 class 6x6 and he almost ran my dad over, but he passed because we heard another bull coming in that sounded better. About a minute passed and the other bull was coming in on a run. Dad said as he came around a juniper tree in front of him he put the hammer down with his .338 right behind his shoulder at 15 paces, which was really about 12-15 yards. After the shot the bull didn't go but 50 yards before he piled up! We put a rough tape on the bull and he gross scored 351 and nets in the mid to upper 340's. What a great way to end his hunt, and we couldn't be happier.

Nice bull...so smile, Dad! lol Actually, that 1st pic of him w/the bull is great. Ever the proud, stoic hunter. Great bull...great pics. Good job!

Awesome bull Kent, glad you did good....did you ever find that deadhead that you ,I and Ralf came across the other day? Just kidding.
Apricot jam headed your way soon. Take care ,Don.

Hey thanks guys, yeah dad was pretty pumped to finally get a bull, it was tough but thats why it was a depredation hunt is to get the elk out of the fields and they did just that, even though after the hunts they will be right back down there again. Congrats on your bull too Don I didn't get the chance to see you before you left, we look forward to some apricot jam! Willy dad found a dead head bull this year during the archery elk hunts and we believe that it is the bull that that kid hit last year during the late rifle hunt that we helped you guys look for, I will call you and talk to you about it and if the kid wants it we have it here.

Thats a nice bull. Congrads to your dad. Thats awesome you want to see if that kid wants that bull he might have shot last year but couldn't find. There needs to be alot more people that aren't so selfish out in the hills.

Congrats Kent and Nick!

Maybe we'll see you this week in McGill as we're headed over for Kristy's early rifle hunt.

What a beautiful bull. His antlers look great , no break at all.Let me ask this though , here in NM a depredation hunt is in an area where animals need to be thinned out and usually happen after the regular seasons. What classifies a dep hunt there in NV? Just curious.Anyhow thanks for sharing and congrats to you and your father on a great hunt and awesome bull...NM

Nice job guys! Congrats to both of you on a job well done. He sure is a good looking bull. Enjoy!

NMHUNTNUTT1 the same thing applies to Nevada it is set to thin out animals near cultivated private ground where the elk are damaging crops and that such, NDOW sets the dates and this particular hunt was a 2 month long hunt which started on August 1 and went until September 30. They also had a depredation cow hunt that occured in the same area for the same time frames.

Nice job Kent and Nick, I know a great Dentist from McGill if you want to get that smile fixed, just kidding. This picture reminds me of a big 5 pt Loaded up whole in a red Toyota years ago, I may have a picture. Congradulations from Larry in Reno.

Hey thanks all, yeah Larry we could have done the same thing with this bull but it was just me and father there so us two would have crapped our insides out trying to load this brute whole in the back of the truck, probably the biggest bodied elk I have seen on the ground. Thinking that body size has to come from that Utah strain of elk, seems like all those bulls down in that country have bodies like that, and it doesn't help that these elk eat alfalfa and other various crops all summer and fall. Thanks again for all your comments, makes dad's chest puff out when everyone compliments on this post!
