Anybody ever hunt in that area, specifically south of Riggins out of the clearwater region. I'm looking for a backup hunting area just in case my other falls through. Any info would be guarded secret if anyone felt like they wanted to divulge. I've horn hunted the north some up near whitebird, Pittsburg landing etc. Anyone?

I think if you are wanting to hunt up in that area it is going to be whitetail only? I could be wrong but it seems to me that is the case.
There are some awesome animals still running around up in that country...but the terrain is probably one of the toughest in the state to hunt....especially for elk sheds...LOL.
I have tried hunting deer just before Riggins and didnt see a whole lot of game...other than elk

I bet I can find a rattler or two there. All that country and no deer. I believe it. As my dad would say, you better take your saltshaker and fork with you, because thats the only way you'll get him out.

Ill be on the Oregon side of Hells canyon due west of Riggins tommorrow for Elk and deer, cant wait to get out of work here and go for 12 days. Herd theres alot of elk in that area.

I have hunted there once for elk and i saw a few in the 20 in range but nothing huge. but if u get one in there u need a horse or take your frying pan along. hope i helped

LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-04 AT 10:14AM (MST)[p]Thanks for the input. Any is appreciated. I know a guy who used to shed antler hunt that alot, and he said he found a ninety inch typical over there. He scores alot, and isn't prone to exaggerate, so peaked my interest. I know its tough stuff, but thats what it take sfor a 90 inch shed.
