Oregon Points

I began collecting points in Oregon a few years ago. Now I have seven for deer and elk (6 for antelope). I'm just trying to figure out what I want to do with them. Remember I am a non-resident. Is it time to cash them in on an average but decent hunt or keep going and wait for the cream of the crop. As a non-res. am I even in the hunt for a decent hunt yet? Words of wisdom from you Oregonians out there? Does the point number have a cap? Willing to trade a bit of info here and there on Idaho.

With 7 deer points you should be able to draw any hunt in the state except Trout creek and you should be getting close to that one, keep putting in for it don't waste your points.
Steens is considered the next best unit and it should take 3 to 5 points.

Antelope will probably take a few more years and elk will also take a few more years for the best units but there are several pretty good units you could draw now with 6 points for elk.

You can call Oregon fish and game and get a record of how many people have how many points for each species.

IdahoNative,
I have a good source of current reference material for this stuff. It would help to know exactly what hunts you are looking at. If you want to e-mail me with your hunt choices, I could look up your potential 2005 odds. [email protected]

PS. I will be leaving shortly for an elk hunt, so dont expect a reply for several days.

Like Austin said, You'll have some good chances with those numbers for deer and elk but even resident draws at pronghorn average 9-11 points. Good Luck
