Thanks for the great comments on my bulls everyone.
First of all I want to thank my good buds who helped me out on my dutton muzz hunt in Utah only the group that were there will know the names we made for each other what a hoot that was I will never forget what ktc said about 4 in the morning in my trailer the comments made can not be printed and never will be but all of us took each others jabs very well.
Anyway about the hunts WOW that dutton unit can kill a guy with horses, wheelers,or on foot and I hunted mostly hiking day in and day out looking for a couple bulls I seen earlier one of the bulls did infact go over to a different unit that was heart breaking. I did get the bull on video before my hunt what a monster.Jeremy filmed my hunt we were using decoys and calling bulls in every day just not big enough but what a great time we had ktc witnessed a bull I called in where he had the horses tied up what a great day using horses to locate elk that saved my legs big time that day thanks Ty and thanks for spending hours for me behind your glass looking for the monster elk you had spotted on your wifes hunt. I seen that bull on her opening day of the rifle hunt and I dont think I have ever seen any elk so large. We tried hard for that bull and I had him located 2 days before my hunt he had more cows with him since the rifle hunt.Jeremy and I decided to hike into the area he was hanging out not far from where ktcs wife killed her giant we ran into 3 guys on wheelers lower where it is legal to ride and I asked them if they were going to hunt up high the man with the permit said no that stuff is just to steep.I thought great we will hike in there and try to locate the big bull but once we got up in that area very tough hike we spotted the same guys on wheelers and since that day on we never did spot any more elk up there I am not making excuses but that pissed me off to say the least. On the fith day I glassed up a 4x4 deer not a bad buck so we were sneaking in on the group of deer and heard a bugle so the deer hunt was off and we went after the elk only to find out it was a raghorn bull so the deer hunt was on again now another bugle I thought great lets go see what he looks like.I told Jeremy I cant keep going on just worn out and if he looks good I will try and get him today is the day.Well I shot him at 151 yards and hit a little low the bull went up the hill so I shot one more time we will have to watch the video but he hunched up and went over the top.I thought there is no way I can lose this bull while loading my muzz again we hiked up and over the top he was laying down but still alive under a burnt tree I snuck in to around 70 yards and made a good hit. What a great hunt not what I was dreaming about for size but am tickled with my bull.
I came home had my wife wash all my clothes grabbed some more food and off to Wyoming I went the next morning it was muddy from the rain that night but what I did notice nobody was hunting low and I wanted to stay out of the mud so was looking for a great place to camp that was dry while driving around I noticed fresh elk tracks down low and decided to give that place a try in the afternoon.I parked my truck and went hiking and glassing around seeing alot of tracks I was tired so I took a nap using my backpack for a pillow when I woke up I glassed some deer below me for a while and decided to go east with the wind in my favor.I found a great looking knoll and just sat down and started glassing only about 10 minutes went by and I counted 12 cows and a bull with good 4ths and 5ths so I decided to try for him he stopped broadside at 506 yards and my bullet flew true he went down hard.A good bud came up early the next morning and helped me get him off the mountain thanks Ryan for all your help.
Bulls get broke this time of year I did not notice the broken sword on his right side and the broken main beam on his left side but am very happy with the results of both my hunts.
I dont know what my bulls score yet and might not ever score them its the good times had by all that matters the most and everytime I look at the racks I will remember a year that I will never beat what a great couple of hunts.

Sounds like an excellent year, nice bulls, I bet your tired now, but those elk steaks for the next 5 years will be good!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-07 AT 12:22PM (MST)[p]Cant wait to get some elk steaks on the grill thats for sure its been quite some time since I had a good elk steak my favorite.
Thanks saddlesore your horse worked out great even with the rattlesnake we seen.I hate to say it but I hate those suckers I think I was looking more for snakes hunting the DOME than looking for elk.HA

Nice looking bulls. Congratulations! You left too much background in the Wyoming pictures--I know exactly where you shot it. Won't due me much good though. 15 years of applying for that unit and still no tag :(

Nice job, that Dutton will work you over that is for sure, but it is fun.
4 wheelers off road is a big problem down there, we had the same thing happen on the bow hunt.

Your Wyoming Bull is also great, good job.

Very nice year, I am sure you are totally stoked.

WOW!!!!

I didn't think anyone got a bull or 2 like that without a $5000.00 built in guide-TIP........after outfitter fees to boot!

A guy doing a DIY hunt in 2 states and getting that quality of bulls from both states.....

My-My-MY..... you got it going on!

Nice bulls bird, congrats. Your Dutton pix show right where you were at. I ran into your buddy Jay S from Arizona while he was helping Steve C, have you heard if he tagged out? He lied and told me you are a really good guy, course his standards must be low as he bought me dinner at Ruby's that night!

Monte, you did GREAT! The more I look at those bulls, the more I think you had a year most will never experience. You drew two good tags and killed 2 great bulls!

Steak and shrimp at that!

The ladies at the Merc know better, I already gave them a heads up.

Pro,
I have not heard if S.C.harvested during the archery sure hope so.I agree with you if they told you I was a nice guy they must not know me to well.HA HA
How did the dutton treat you this year pro?I am sure happy for Mrs.ktc what a great bull she harvested cant wait to see that one on the wall.

We did good, didn't kill either of the two I really wanted to, but we killed a couple of really good bulls. Even called in a big ol cinnamon boar to within 30 yards while bringing in a 370+ bull. That is the first bear I have seen down on the Dutton.

Congratulations War! That is awesome! One of those bulls would make a great year but 2?? I bet you will be on cloud nine when your body quits aching!! I know it takes a few weeks to fully recover from all that hiking and packing meat! Thanks for sharing your hunts with us!

Monte
Man, you did real well on both of them. Glad to see the success come your way. Two bulls of that caliber in one year is big deal. Glad Ryan could at least show up to help you out on the last one. :) Hows he feeling? Anyway, congrats. Guess I need to come over and see them.

Yelum

Thanks Yelum,
It was a great season I will never forget we seen larger bulls in both States scouting and hunting but finding them and scoring is the hard part as we all know that.Ryans ankle is healing up nice he went from a walking cast on my Wy archery hunt to wearing a boot and packing out a front qaurter on the dutton. The Wyoming elk was not to big of deal getting out that area has tons of access it sure makes it nice to have help on these hunts I cant thank the guys enough that when called upon were there to help me out what a great time we had this year.I took my son Preston down with me on Ktcs wifes hunt for the opener that was fun having him there in camp sure cant wait to get him involved in hunting in the near future.

Both are great bulls, Sure is nice when everything comes together in a season like this one.

Thanks AWHOLELOTTABULL,
Today was my first day back to work in 2 weeks can somebody please come up with a Colorado deer tag I need another vacation.I think my wife would kill me if I go on another hunt better wait until next year.
