unit 20 january hunt

Ok you guys are driving me crazy with your pics and I dont get to hunt until January for a bull in unit 20 Colorado. Ive hunted unit 20 numerous times but never January. Anyone ever hunted this areas late season. Any tips on access and such ? Thanks , Gary

Yeah its the estes park unit. Above Loveland,Co and Ft Collins

As you probably know access can be a problem! Lots of private and public land scattered through the unit. It is hit or miss for elk because there aren't very high elk numbers (outside of the Estes Park area). A lot of elk get spooked onto private land which can be a real bummer! The elk in 20 are hunted from the Sept archery season through almost February so you can understand how the elk figure out where the private land is and where there is little hunting pressure. I ate my 4th season tag last year because of warm temps and very little elk movement. If you can luck into private land access you will be in great shape but if not be prepared for a long hunt!

I'll second what Jims said. I had a buddy who drew this hunt a few years ago, and even though he hunted with a guide, they did poorly on public land. Private land is the key, and being damn lucky and getting enough snow to force the elk down. Otherwise, it might be tough.
