My 1st Elk

Here is a picture of my first elk, I got it in unit 23 in Wyoming. It has 7 on one side and only five on the other due to a couple points being broken off. I can't complain though, it is great for a first timer. I had it scored and if it wasn't missing half of the one side it would score around 330.

One question- If I were to take this into a taxidermist could they fix the broken tines?

Congrats on a fine bull/first bull! Yes, they can fix the horns. The cape might take some doing though?;-)

Yes, any good taxi can fix the antlers with no problem at all.

BTW.........NICE BULL. Congrats on your first bull. Now you have the "sickness" too!

Congrats on your bull. Yeah you'll need another cape and yeah your taxi can fix the antlers , but I think if you get him done , you should mount him how you killed him, don't worry about the broken points. It's the character of that bull now and that's how you got him ...Just my .02....NM

I think I am just going to do a europrean mount on this one, and maybe someday get a larger one without any broken tines. He broke his main beam when he fell, and the other was already broken.

I saw about 45-50 deer just in the 1st morning when I was up there. I know there are some very nice 4x4's with 26-28 inch spreads, but didn't seem them this time up there. I am not deer hunting up there this year, so I wasn't looking real close.

Thanks l2ldc....I'm heading up to take a look soon. That ranch with no hunting is the diamond ring, probably. I'm just wondering how much of an effect the elk hunting has had on the deer.....whether it pushed them out of the higher areas or not.

that would be the ranch, The deer I saw were still up high and we had a few groups of does that just trotted about 50-75 yards in front of us for a mile or better.
