LAST EDITED ON Sep-14-04 AT 09:47AM (MST)[p]I have had pretty decent luck finding deer in velvet from just below timberline to well above timberline in the summer in Colorado, but have spent a lot less time looking down lower. Generally speaking, what percentage of muley bucks live down low in the aspens, p/j and sage year round when they have the option to live in nearby higher country. I already know that muley bucks live year round in many different habitats all over the west, but what do most prefer if they have the option to live above timberline.

More specifically, I guess my question is, are the bucks relatively evenly distributed throughout all the different zones on a given mountainside during the spring summer and fall, or do most bucks up prefer to stay up high til the snow and rut brings them down. Is there a distinct belt of mostly bucks up high in the summer, and and another lesser belt of mostly bucks that live down lower, year round (assuming they have the option to live in all of the different vegetation zones in a given unit/general area). I know this isnt a simple cut and dried question with one simple answer, but what holds generally to be true in your experience?
