AZ Winter Elk

Work commitments and shoulder surgery kept me from returning to Arizona during the rut in my pursuit of filling out my Raffle Elk Tag. I'll be ready to hunt again by December.

Question is: What is typical behavior for elk during the months of January ? February? Will the bulls return to normal patterns after the pressure has subsided?

Man get your tail over here and fill that tag. Use the other shoulder. Quit your job. You were looking for one when you found that one.

If you are still hurting by then, how about donating the hunt to a special needs child! O.K. I will cry like a baby if you give me that tag!

If you can get access to hunt where bulls winter it can be much more productive than a rut hunt, believe it or not...just not as exciting. Some of the really older giants don't show themselves in Sept. and really run from the other bulls when they get a cow or 2 and they don't bust up. Then in winter they're like sitting ducks with NO broken points. Good luck!

Thanks for the email. I've seen some great bulls during the January deer hunt with no broken points, more the exception though.
