The velvet world record is probably broken this year but which of the two heavyweights will come out on top? The Nevada velvet typical seen all over the internet or the Colorado velvet typical lying patiently in the backroom of a taxidermy shop. My buddy has actually taped the Colorado buck so I'm real sure its more than just some hot internet air. I've seen the photos of the buck and its IMPRESSIVE to say the least. It grosses slightly over 210 and easily nets over 200 with no extras. Let the tale of the tape be told.

I wish I could share the photo but I don't know the hunter and it would be unfair to him to post it without his permission.

I'd give my left pinky finger for either one. I hear the CO buck is a STUD!

Now is the time for the hard horn boys to come out from hiding! It would be nice to see what the rest of the year has in store for each state....so far it has been awesome for archery.....we still have some muzzelloader hunts and rifle hunts....and even some late archery hunts to see before the end of the year....should be impressive to see what gets to hit the ground!

There's been some archery kills that have been Unbelievable so far. But I haven't seen a whole lot of Monsters the people have killed on the board. But, it's still Sept. And there's tons of hunting coming up. Can't wait to see the CO. Buck. I can't wait to see the DeerKing success pics. I know he's already gotten a Bull Elk, and a 190ish Muley, and I believe he's going Speed Goat hunting this weekend.

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

Buckspy, Is this the same buck that was killed a few weeks back in unit 62? I know of one sitting in a taxidermy shop out in Clifton that scores around 209 typical. A real bruiser!!

In an effort to respect each others "honey holes" and keep units from getting to much attention on the internet, I try to refrain from saying where others have killed their buck unless its common knowledge.

Yeh, its the same buck. Its highly impressive. Close to 210 and it doesn't break 30 inches. Can you say tine length and mass?

I'm suprised and at the same time not suprised. The east side of the Uncompahgre gets pounded and there is a road on every mesa top. But there are some treacherous canyons that the bucks could grow bigger. I have always seen good bucks during the early rifle bear season. Can't wait to see pic's of this monster.

I have seen the Co buck also. It sounds like it is going to net a little short of the nevada buck if the net measurements that have been posted on the web are true. I guess if that is the case the is still hope that the Nevada buck will shrink more during the drying period.

I cant believe the quality of animals in Matts shop already this year.

Its been my experience that scores tend to be a little inflated immediately post kill. When guys come back to planet earth after a month or two, so do the scores unless you are writing a story for a magazine and then you add 15% automatically. hehehe
