Can anyone tell me about access to this area and what type of country is this.
Is it good for mule deer or bear?
Are there any elk there?
I'm going next week for my first trip to Idaho. I intend to look around for a couple of days and then elk hunt but i am considering a deer tag.
I will give yall a report when I return to Texas.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

I went backpack deer hunting into the Idaho 36B area 2 years ago. I wont hand out any specifics on exactly where to go as I went on the advice of a friend who has hunted there alot, and that sort of info is not mine to give out. I will tell you that Its big country, with tons of public land. The access is pretty good, assuming you like to get away from the roads, have good maps and sound navigation skills. I saw lots of elk, and a few good bulls. I saw relatively few deer, passed on some little ones, got a short bouncing glimpse of only one shooter buck. Had a wolf pack encounter. Didnt see any bear, but they are there. Tough terrain overall. Vegetation varies from the driest most barren hills around to very steep, thick continuous stands of blow down timber. No timberline here. Barring a pile of snow, I would seek out higher areas with good feed and water and lots of glassable edge habitat. Bring some strong legs and good binos. Best of luck on your hunt.
