I got back yesterday from X3B with the biggest buck of my life.This buck means more to me than any other buck i've shot. I prescouted this area, checked all the maps for water, checked aerial photos and hiked about 15 miles before I found him on the 3rd day of the hunt. I can't post the pics because hunt101 is down, so if I can email them to someone to post I'd appreciate it. He's 28" outside spread, perfect 4x4 that will probably score in the 170's of so.

C'mon there HogWild,we all know that all the monster muleys in CA are just lost NV deer. Seriously though, congratulations on what sounds like a great deer. Can't wait to see the pictures.

Thanks for posting the pics! I shot this buck early Monday morning while he was taking a drink, he never knew what happened. I had him scored yesterday, he scored 172 4/8 gross and only had 4" of deductions, not bad for California. I do think he could of been a lost Nv. buck since we were only a mile from Nevada. He's going on the wall for sure, any suggestions on a taxidermist around or near the stockton area?

Congradulations hogwild that is a great buck no matter where he came from. Good to see somebody take a big buck in California.
Back in the late seventies northern calif produced some of the biggest bucks that were being taken. Modoc county and Lassen was the place to go back then. I haven't hunted there for over 35 years so don't know where that unit is.Great buck hogwild!

It's in modoc county near the warner MT.s..

Still checking out taxidermists. There's one in Reno I may look into, they are called Animal Artistry. They may be kind of pricy, but i'll check them out anyway. With only an 8' ceiling, I may have to have it done in a semi sneak, does anyone else have any recommendations on mount styles? I don't want it to go half way down the wall. It's pretty tall, so I think a semi sneak may be the best bet. What do think?

For that buck, I'd raise the ceiling. That's a beauty, make sure you post it up in an area where everyone can see it.

If you're going as far as Reno, you might as well check out Bob White over in San Martin (between Gilroy & Morgan Hill). He's kinda of a crotchity old codjer but the guy does fantastic work at a reasonable price. He'll chew your @ss if you bring him a messed-up cape... but he'll fix it like nothing ever happened... and the stories are worth the trip. Good guy.

By the way, great Caly muley... I popped a nice 5x4 up in X5B about 10 years ago, but haven't been able to draw since. Maybe next year.
