TRIP JEOPARDIZED????

I realized a major setback to my 2004 hunting trip which I leave for next wednesday. Last night while on my way home from work a lady decided it would be a good idea to pay much more attention to her cell phone and not a STOP sign and ran a red right in front of my new truck. The new 2004 sierra made easy work of her ford explorer and did a realitivley good job of protecting my sorry but. As I sat with my face in the airbag, enjoying the burning powder that it releases my anger grew. After a quick physical inventory I realized I wasn't bleeding and nothing felt broken. I was however in panic mode already analyzing the scenarios for alternate modes of transportation to the promise land.
As the paramedics straped me to a backboard they kept asking on a scale of 1 to 10 what my pain level was. I kept answering 5, waiting for them to ask what my level of pissed off was which was about 20. After a nice ambulance ride, a cute doctor offered heavy pain med's which I denied ( I don't wan't to trun into Brett Favre). A good night rest leaves me with a stiff back and neck and the wonder of what the next week will bring.

Is my trip doomed, or is this the epic beggining to a monster muley adventure....

time will tell.

Rent a new truck, and put about 8000 miles on it, her insurance company will have to pay for it. :) Hope you dont stiffen up to badly over the next couple of days.

bummer.

i'm sure you'll make your trip happen no matter what.

look at it this way, at least it didn't happen on your way out of town.

Lar,

That's the chits, man. Amazing how quick things can happen! You'll over come the adversity, and make the best of it.

Many condolences here, sure hope the body can make it.
I thought they offered Mary~Jane there in Kalifoni, not painers like they gave Brett Farve.

Make the trip happen. You can feel like crap at home or up at deer camp, your choice. A few years back me and bro were on our way to do some scouting the week before the season. He drove off an embankment going 40 mph like something from the Dukes of Hazard. Nosedived into the bottom of a ravine. Totaled his truck and my face, serious concussion, several big facial lacerations... but the next weekend found me deer hunting against the docs strong advice to stay home. Best of luck on your hunt Larry.

Right on guys,

I'm a muley psycho like the rest of you and view this as one more challenge that will make this a very memorable hunt, and like stated above, I can feel like hell at home or feel like hell in deer camp trying to kill a big ass buck. We all know that the second is much more my speed. Lucky for me I have an awesome wife thats helping me out. A few days of r/r and we should be good as new. Real stiff right know and a little knocking in the old melon.

made me laugh, in my other post, USA had mentioned that he wanted to squeeze my head to see all teh bs come out. Little did he know that alomst happened! Must be clairvoyant...

Thanks again guys, you guys rock....Best of luck to all...even USA

Five Point,

You'll overcome and this will be the beginning to the story of your 2004 Monster Muley...What you need to be thinking about is what the title is going to be.. New Pickup buck, Headache buck, Walk like a mummy buck.. I'll spare you more titles. Anyways rest up drink lots of water and take ibuprofen for the swelling/stiffness. God speedy recovery

Let me give you a word of warning. Don't do anything stupid when your back and neck are involved! If it hurts, don't do it.

To make a long story short, I thought I was Superman and would be a tough guy, and did a pretty good job of it, for a while. Then, things went south and now I am left permanently screwed up. You can tough out pain, but you cannot reverse nerve damage. Think about it.

If it hurts, go get an MRI, because back damage does not get better, only worse. No hunt is worth rubber legs.

Screw with your back long enough and you will be a "Brett Favre" whether you want to be one or not.

Good luck 5pt. Glad to hear that your doing ok other than a few bumps and bruises. It sure could have been much worse! I can't wait to hear the ending to your story. They always end up being great one way or another! Hopefully the ending to this story will include a monster buck for you!

Take care and good luck!

Did she at least finish her telephone call?!
Bummer man. You know, because of how pumped you were, pain wasn't felt. That adrenaline sure wears off the next day though! Sometimes you say you are well enough to not even go to the hospital! Good thing you went. Hope the idiot pays for her negligence...it could have been way worse.

I was once hit at a stop light which was red at the moment. I'm there listening to the Country station when...SSSSCCCRRRREEEEEEEEEEECCCCCHHH.....WHAM!! A drunk driver (extreme DUI) didn't see the red light...NOR MY CAR AT THE STOPLIGHT!!...but, that's another story.

Hope you feel better and have a great hunt.

Chef

First of all I am glad to hear your ok.
Make the trip out with the rental truck the lady will have to pay for with her insurance.
I have been in a similar dilema myself but still went. Will do you some good to get out and away from sitting at home worrying.
Hope you make it out and get a big one.
Best,
Jerry

Thanks again for all the advice and encouragement. Here are a few pics of my rig... kinda depressing- this truck is 3 months old! I have a vehichle on hold. As long as nothing major goes wrong health wise, I will make the trip... Thanks again guys...more to come...

I know how you feel here, glad to hear your o.k. Last year, this same thing happened to me and I took the rental SUV (provided by the wrongdoer's insurance) on my trip. Never missed a beat, had a great time (as you will), but did not find the buck I wanted. January 2005 will be 5 year anniversary for my 55 mph, head-on brush with death outside of Heber City on my way home from a successful cow elk hunt. Guy that hit me had been driving all night and fell asleep. When I was healing up, all I could think was I'd better be able to tackle the mountains the same way I used to or I'm gonna be real pi**ed off. Everything turned out well. Anyway, good luck on your hunt. Can't wait for the story and pictures.

FPB,

I thought about my post. It is a good thing you did not get seriously hurt. Or have you?

Unfortunately pal I know a little about backs. Not just elk and deer management, but backs too. ;-)

Here are some ktc red flags to consider.

Any tingling in your arms or legs?
Any numbness in your arms or legs?
Does it feel like you have a hot butter knife in your ass cheek?
Can you reach your own rear end?
Any trouble controlling your rear end?
Do your legs hurt? Arms?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, it is serious and it gets worse. Hopefully you don't have of that stuff and you just got rattled a bit. I would watch it close though. I feel for ya. A sore back sucks.

Remember though, if you feel like you have a hot butter knife between your cheeks...YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY HAVE A HOT BUTTER KNIFE BETWEEN YOUR CHEEKS!! LOL

Get 'er done!!!!!...fly if you have to man, you'll feel like chit if you don't go.....

It sounds like you have the situation under control. I had the same thing happen a couple years ago. But I had a 82 year old lady run a red light and remove the front end of my truch with me still sitting in it. When her insurance went to set up the rental car I told them I needed something comparable. I ended up with an diesel F250 4X4. I was planning on buying one and having it for 3 weeks made me decide that it wasn't what I wanted. So make sure that they set you up. It is your right. Hope your feeling OK.
