Went with my Mrs. on her Northern rifle buck tag. What a ball we had. I took her in where I had mzzldr buck hunted in late Sept.. I don't know if the snow brought bucks and does down a little lower or what??
Kind of funny being in a traffic jam going up RT. 39 till we turned off for our hike into this area. Nice to see alot of guys/gals still out hunting though.
We ran into a solo hunter, some gal that had a decent 4x4 down, she took one shot and dropped him.
Hope all had a great time, crowds or no crowds. From all the shooting, seemingly in every direction in the distance, sounded like plenty had shots.

I hunted Southern Region near Cove Fort with my father in law and brother in law. We went to an area where my father in law has taken quite a few nice bucks. I was disappointed to say the least. I saw less that 20 deer and only two bucks...a "trophy" spike and a little forkie. Needless to say, I passed on both. We had a bit of snow and very little competition. We hunted hard, and I put quite a few miles on my boots without much luck. The strage thing was, I only heard two or three shots all day, until some yahoos on the other side of the mountain took about 17 shots at something.

Oh well, we're going to try a different spot next weekend, so who knows, maybe I'll get my buck after all.

I hunted high here in the Central Unit early in the morning but had to be back by noon. As I was driving down the canyon, I counted 272 trucks road hunting....what a beautiful sight! I saw about 30 deer, the snow was about 18 inches deep in some places. Only 2 small bucks as well, didn't have time to find the big boys that I'd seen scouting/muzzy hunting.

Hey got mine on the opener up parleys around little dell res. a 4 point . Ill post some pics and a story soon .

later and good luck , huntercameron

I hunted up above Hardware Ranch with my 7 year old boy. Sounded like the opening of the duck hunt till about 9:30 a.m. There was shots ringing out in every direction. Saw 5 does and one 2 point. If even a portion of all those shot's harvested bucks, then there was a lot of deer taken up there yesterday. Had to leave before 11:00 oclock so I didn't see any hanging tree's. Saw more hunters than I thought I would. I think the snow drove alot of deer down lower. Hope they weren't all shooting 2 points. I wonder how they did up higher near Monte Cristo and Curtis Creek? Saw alot of other Fathers trying to keep there sons quiet(talking, singing, complaining and laughing) like I was doing with my boy. Now I remember why my Grandpa and uncles had a hard time finding deer when I was younger. But it sure is good times spending time with the kids and listening to how they look at things. Good luck everyone!

American Fork canyon area was a joke. There was EXTREMELY little shooting and with most of the upper trails having 2-3ft of snow it kept most people all along the main access roads. I've never seen so many people hunting it... and that includes one HELL of alot of out of state hunters for some reason. Most people hadnt seen a deer that I talked to, we saw 4 or 5 different bands that numbered around 24 total deer, all does.

I only heard 2 different rifles firing and never saw a dead deer.

Well, I went out and braved the opener....I wasn't hunting but I was helping my brother in law and a friend...sort of guiding for them. What a morning!!! Snow, lots of deer and great fun. Both of them have never harvested a buck before. The first buck was taken by my brother in law. A nice 4 point 24 inches wide and pretty tall...we saw a real shooter before that but he was a little nervous and forgot to chamber a shell....LOL first hunt jitters i guess. The second buck was taken by a friend this is his first buck as well. We walked down into this canyon and we could see a few decent bucks on the other side of the hill none were that great and then a real bruiser stepped out. He looked and looked but couldn't find him in his scope....he's a pup so I can't blame him...I'm sure I made the same mistakes when I first started. The bruiser wasn't going to stick around for us and he got out of there fairly quick. We could still see a couple of others straggling behind. We finally picked out a nice 3x4 with eye guards almost 4 inches long, he ended up being 24 inches wide as well. He made a great shot at 240 yards and it was all over. His first buck ever...I think it is more fun for me to watch people get a deer sometimes than it is for me to actually get one. Both of them were so happy....what a day. I love hunting!!! I have video and my brother in law has all the digital pictures...I'll post them when he emails them to me. Good luck to all!!

I hunted just under strawberry peak, lots of snow real bad roads a few people and some deer. Nothing worth bragging about, some guys got a little forky, another group had about a 20 inch 4 point and the only other one i saw taken was an ok two point. Thinking about trying daniels during the week any suggestions?

I went down and spent the weekend with my dad who lives in Monroe Ut.
Friday afternoon I talked to a couple of guys that came down off Monroe Mtn in a snow cat and they said that there was 4 feet of snow on top.
So I said Hay lets just go south of town in the flats and what do you know.
BOOM.... 25" 4x4 with 7" deep rear forks....BANG.... I took this buck only 3 miles from his house and at 7.40.... I used my range finder on him..... Bing.....One shot from my 300 ultra mag at 368 yards and my hunt was over.....

Well my dad was watching the whole thing and I waved him over and he unloaded a wheeler and came and helped do the gut thing, then we loaded him on the wheeler, put the wheeler back on the trailer and headed back to his house...

Now do i mount or dont mount?

Man its great when a plan comes together...

He is going to E mail me some pics...

Happy Hunting..

If this weeks weather patern stays as they are saying, alot of the deer will be down way low by next wknd. Gotta be on the mountain to have a chance....shoot straight!

Passed on a nice heavy 23 -24" 3x opening day in hopes of seeing his buddy that I've been watching since July. Saw more bucks than does on opening day - lots of forkies and a few willow horn 3's and 4's. Plenty of deer and fewer hunters than normal due to the weather.

Had fun in the snow on Sunday morning spotting some true trophies, both about a 1.5 miles away in some nasty country with tough access. Thinking about a 2nd weekend attempt on the sled to get above em in the snow and work down.

Good opening weekend for us! Gotta love the snow! Big boys are still hangin high!
