Hey do you think theyll be a winterkill especially in northern utah . Theres already 4 feet of snow up in some high elevations. I hope there wont be a winterkill . Am i worrying to much ? Well let me know what you fellows think about this early snow.

They will probably have a harder time this year if it keeps piling up . Well hope this helps .

It's lining up to be a good/bad winter, depending on your priorities. (drought)
The Zion unit in Southern Utah received a healthy blanket of snow a few days before the opener. Most if not all the deer migrated to lower elevations earlier than normal. It's a good thing this unit only had a five-day season. I'm afraid an extremely high hunter success enjoyed by the masses will make for some terribly lean years in the future. A lot of bucks were killed, including a few biggins.
On a positive note, I don't remember ever seeing this much moisture this early in the upcoming winter season. It's desperately needed and greatly appreciated. Maybe a little road base in the drive way would have been a good investment this year.

I am very afraid for the Front. We have no winter range as it is, and with the snow piling up they are headed down and headed fast. Elk I think may fare better, just because they tolerate the deeper snow better than deer. DWR is keeping tabs on it, but we all know how they feel about winter feeding. MDF and SFW should keep up the pressure and do it early to get the money and feed available.

My .02 for what it's worth.

The last major wintering area for the SLC / UT county area is being bulldozed at a truely amazing rate. Thats the "Point of the Mountain" area above micron. They are pushing in new roads pretty much daily now and its only a very short amount of time till its all paved and filled with homes. At $400,000 per half acre building lots I truely cant blame them for raping it... but its depressing to see.

The wintering area right in the northern middle of alpine between Fort and Drycreek canyons has also been sold and is now being subdivided.

Yup my personal guy feeling is we are in for a massive winter... and with high populations and no winter range, I hope it doesnt turn out as bleak as either '93 or '83 winters were.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-04 AT 02:52PM (MST)[p]DallanC, whatever became of those @$$holes whining about the deer eating their shrubs, etc. up there in Alpine? I'd heard rumor they were gonna issue a bunch of antlerless permits, but I hope that's not the case.

How high up does a fella have to get to legally hunt above Alpine now-a-days? Used to always kill a few up near the water tank, but I doubt it's legal any more. How bout' the low hills?
