Early Season Bucks

Here are a couple of bucks that my brother and I connected on at the beginning of September. The bucks are far from huge, but it was a great hunt nonetheless. We backpacked into an alpine area in southern B.C. that we've hunted a few times previously. Saw about 15 bucks and 45 total deer. These two were the largest. First buck is mine. Caught him at the top of an open basin at daybreak with 6 other bucks. There was a second legal buck in the group as well, and we had hoped to connect on a double. The bucks spooked at the last moment, though, and I had to sprint down the mountain to cut them off. Luckily the buck I shot was at the tail end of the group. I fired a couple of warning shots to give him a fair chance before putting one in the boiler room.

Second pic is my brother's buck. The last morning of the hunt we spotted this buck with a second small 4x4 and 2 does. By the time we'd stalked within range the bucks had fed into the timber. We decided that I would drive the timber in the hope of pushing the bucks out into the open. As my brother moved to get into position the buck walked out into the open. I ran after my brother to tell him the buck had emerged from the timber. When we got back to the basin my brother was very unsporting, failing to fire any warning shots. First shot at 230 yards was in the lungs, but a little far back. Second shot was in the back of the neck as the buck was running away at 250 yards.
