Received these in an e-mail and only a small bit of info.

Here are pics of a bull Todd Reichert from Chehalis took in New
Mexico last week on the governor's tag purchased at last year's RMEF
convention. He was hunting with Ross Johnson and he said no one that he was
aware of had seen this bull all year. Hard to guess the score.

The first 3 points on each side is out of this world. To bad he had the moose thing going on the one side or he might have scored something really amazing. Awsome bull

Anyone who loves big elk has to like this one. What an incredible elk! Big bulls come in all shapes. This one definitely has his own character! Wow!

THE REASON NOBODY SEEN THAT BULL EARLIER IT CAME IN FROM UTAH!!!

ONE OF THE MANAGEMENT BULL HUNTERS KNOCKED THAT BULL DOWN!!!

AFTER HE WALKED UP TO THE BULL HE NOTICED IT WASN'T A LEGAL MANAGEMENT BULL!!!

HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BUSTING SOME POINTS OFF TO MAKE IT LEGAL WHEN THE BULL JUMPED UP & HEADED SOUTH!!!

JUST KIDDING!!!

SUPER BULL!!!

THIS IS MY NEW GUN,YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT,YOU'LL LIKE IT A HELL OF A LOT LESS WHEN IT HITS ITS DESTINATION!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THAT KNOWS ALOT OF YOU HAVE HAD THIS IMAGE IN YOUR PEA BRAIN BUT DUE TO POOR SHOOTING TACTICS I'M STILL KICKIN!!!

Yeah thats the toad. The score I was told Wednesday night was 441 and change as well. The bull had infact been seen, the guy that found this bull is from Datil and has the sheds from last year. The bull was crossing from a private ranch into state land and back. The man that found the bull earlier this winter gained access to the ranch and contacted Ross knowing he had the Governor tag hunter and helped them to this bull.

To add a little to the story , this bull was dropped in about the most extreme country that could be, he was very isolated . They had to cut and carry the elk down to the horses as it was too rough just to get the bull off the mountain.

I don't knock this man one bit for being the purchaser of the Governors tag. The money does a lot for wildlife and if I was getting up there in age, & had the money, I also would want a shot at a trophy animal.

This guy could have bought a high fenced bull but opted for this.

There aint a pi$$er or whiner on here that wouldn't buy a tag like that if they had the money.

Heck of a bull and way to go!!!

Awesome BULL!!! That palmated left side is incredible! Would take him over a typical any day :)

I'd buy if I could...

LAST EDITED ON Jan-13-08 AT 08:33PM (MST)[p]WyoXtex rumor has it you "purchased" toilet paper..lost all respect for ya man.

Ross of Ross Johnson Outfitters (the outfitter who found the bull) called me tonight and asked that I let you guys know that this bull has an unofficial score of 441-5/8.

Ross Johnson has been guiding Gov. Tag holders for years, taken many over 390, but this is the largest.

Why is it when a member comes on here and differs in his or her opinion you guys gather up like a bunch of little girls and hammer them. All he said was it was hard for him to respect what money could buy, it was his feelings and he stated them , he didn't say "we should all feel this way' he simply wrote how he felt. It's true that had 99.9 % of us had the kind of money it takes to have such a tag we would buy it, but guess what , 99.9% of us don't, so then we are left to feel and sometimes say things that not always are we all going to agree on.I've heard the same things the UT guys have heard about the top guides there about a couple of the top guides here, some if not most of these rumors are stories started by jealous people who wished they were as good. But some just could be true. You should respect a man because he is man enough to speak his mind and not be such a jerk about it.

NMHUNTNUTT1, if you/others are willing to 'share' your opinions, you/others should be prepared and/or expect to defend such opinions. Otherwise, DON'T SHARE AN OPINION. To say that someone should be allowed to make a snide comment and then get a 'free pass' is absurd.

This is a great bull, congrats to the hunter. That's all that needs to be said!

Don't ya think that it's a little hypocritical to say that "it's hard to respect what money can buy"? Correct me if I'm wrong but everybody does this on a daily basis. You BUY (with money) the best house you can afford, the best truck you can afford, you eat at Outback instead of McDonalds when you can afford it. I don't know anybody that walks into a store and says, "I make enough money to buy 2 Beneli's but I'll just buy the Mossberg from WalMart today". Why should buying tags be different? I don't know what other people's situation is but give that hunter credit for the bull he killed.

It's always an adventure!!!

Its those kind of critical posts especially when it comes to the gov. tags ,that makes those guys not share the pics. I was raised that if you don't have something nice or positive to say don't say it (or type it). nwhunter

Don't get your feathers so ruffled.

All I'm implying is that I don't like seeing the sport of hunting turning into a sport of the wealthy. The majority of Governor's tags and conservation tags are auctioned off to the highest bidder (some are raffled but very few) and I don't think it's good for hunting.

Utah nonresident permits are the posterchild, last year Utah issued 147 nonres bull elk permits in the draw, and issued 86 permits as conservation tags (again, most of those going to the highest bidder). For moose tags, 10 were in the nonres draw and another 8 went to the high bidders. In other states it's tranferable landowner tags.

I have a "tough time respecting what money can buy".

My 2 cents, you don't have to agree with it. That's the beauty of America.

If I had an extra 6 digits to throw at a tag, would I do it? Probably.

One more thing, I realize the money generated from these permits goes to habitat projects and the overall benefit of wildlife. I am a member of some of these organizations, hell I've even been on a couple of the commitees and volunteered my own time.

But if the opportunities are being taken away from the average joe hunter and given to the wealthy, the majority of the hunting community loses while a very small minority reap the benefits.

I don't care if the habitat is the best it can possibly be, with the opportunities to hunt being taken away at the current rate they are, the future generation may not grow up to be hunters.

Again, this is my opinion, you don't have to agree.

I dont know how people feel satisfied when buying a tag like this, hell I drew a muzzy tag this year the only bull tag in a unit and no other hunters.I shot my biggest bull this year a 340", Tell you what I had and will have way more satisfaction out of hunt if I called in a 2x3 packed into a remote location on public land.

What a boomer bull! I'm glad it didn't die of old age like quite a few of those older, sneaky brutes do....

i wrote the bill for the govs tag in nm around 2001 cant remember...pat lyons was our state senator that pushed it through in the first legislative try....as of 2013 it raised 1.7 million counting the raffle tag, havent checked since...we took the tag to denver rmef national convention auction...we had a table for the clovis chapter...my buddy who had just retired from the bnsf rr was sitting next to me...the auctioneer kept pointing at me and i put my hands under my legs....my buddy bought it for 37.5 the lowest it ever went for....he contracted with ross johnson...my buddy was an old bachelor ( prolly why he could afford it) super laid back...on the opening day of the hunt my fone rang, where the hell is Lash he supposed to be hunting....he forgot when he was to show up...anyway he drives to the gila and kills a 417 the next day!! meanwhile back to the auction, one of my other buddies goes to the bathroom, meets a guy asking about the rmef who had showed up ...he brings him back to the table and he joins us...my buddy Benny explains all....unbeknownst to us this guy is bob tortensen, he owns a tool company in chicago and has been diagnosed with terminal cancer...he owns a big ranch in the gila called the H and H....well come to find out much later that ranch was where ross took lash...tortensen willed the ranch to the rmef after his death

Yes those pictures damn near broke the internet. Due to the Internet Safety Act of 2008 it had to be taken down due to national security reasons.

Likely if those pictures were posted today it wouldn’t be a big deal. The infrastructure has been built up since the OP….
